Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Apr 07, 2009 10:33 pm Even though our colour selection appointment isn't till April 20th, my boyfriend wants all our selections made now so I don't add a whole bunch of upgrades when we are there!! I need advice for the kitchen glass splashback though! I think (open for any suggestions and changes) we will have laminex Milano Walnut for the cupboards (not as dark in real life) and quantum quarts Ice for the benchtop (again not as blue and more brown flecks) but I have no idea for the splashback!! MILANOWALNUT.jpg qq_ice2.jpg Any suggestions? I don't even know if we should go light or dark!! Too many decisions We love the look of the mirror splashbacks but does anyone have any idea how much they cost? We are building with PD if that makes any difference! Thanks for any advice or suggestions =) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: HELP - need advice on a glass splashback colour 2Apr 07, 2009 10:41 pm If you are on a tight budget keep this in mind. If you go light you will need to upgrade to starfire glass to get the true colour. A darker colour will mean you can use clear glass (green tinge). PD use dulux colours for their splashback... that is also their render colours. As silly as it sounds, go into Hopteoun and play around with the render colour boards and the kitchen laminate samples and stone samples. They have a lot of render boards but only a few splashback boards.... and everyone uses those splashback colours that are on the splashback display. People looked at me like I was an idiot because I was using the render boards.... but it made it really easy to visualise my kitchen! My splashback will be Army Issue and that is also my render colour.... so it ties in. A strong colour like red, green or blue would look great with that laminate. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: HELP - need advice on a glass splashback colour 3Apr 07, 2009 11:02 pm lol strange idea but if it works I'll try it! I forgot to mention that I will be ugrading to starfire glass because I don't like the green tinge (just my personally taste) so light or dark shouldnt be a problem. Don't know if I'm game enough to go with something so bold but I'll keep it in mind! Thanks Re: HELP - need advice on a glass splashback colour 4Apr 08, 2009 12:56 am I agree with Joles - a good strong red or blue would look really good. We're probably having similar colours to you with a bright red splashback. After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Thanks You only use starphire glass on light colours, as the green has beeen taken out - that's why light colour glass splashbakcs are dearer than dark s/backs. So If you go for a dark colour, you can save money by not having starphire, as the green tinge won't be seen. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: HELP - need advice on a glass splashback colour 6Apr 08, 2009 7:48 am If it were me, I'd pick a nice warm red. But then again, I'm obsessed with red The other option is going for a lighter colour, perhaps a very light caramel/brown/beige. That way you could accessorise with red, blue, green or whatever you wanted. It makes it easier to change your colour scheme down the track if the splashback is in a neutral colour. ....but I have a voice in the back of my head saying "pick red, tell her to pick red"... Here are some dark colours so to not upgrade the glass, that would suit. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bull ring a nice dark taupe or Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Crimson red..... Both Dulux....I think both dark enough not to have the starfire.....but I would check to see how light in colour you can go before it becomes clear glass. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Toffee fingers would also look nice with your colours it would pick up the browny flecks in your benchtop. With this one I think you would have to go with the clear glass so extra $$ Re: HELP - need advice on a glass splashback colour 9Apr 08, 2009 12:59 pm Thanks for your suggestions everyone! The red or green would look great but I don't know if I can bring myself to picking something so bold! I'll have a look around at displays with a similar colour schemes and see if I can do it lol I like the darker colours too, I'll probably end up going with something like that!
