Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 Feb 03, 2009 9:50 pm My kitchen renovation is almost done and I have to pick the tiles for the splashback. Doors are antique white (square profile), benchtops are black galaxy granite, stainless steel appliances and door knobs, and the floor will be timber. I guess I will just buy a basic off white tile, but what size and shape? What is the fashion for splashbacks? Builder did suggest maybe 3 or 4 small square feature tiles which they would fit into the splashback by cutting off four corners. I really don't know what he meant and honestly I need help. Any suggestions or photos would be fantastic. I want to keep it all clean and simple but don't want to be outright boring! Re: Help needed for my splashback tiles 2Apr 04, 2009 9:15 pm I noticed no one answered your query and wondered what you eventually went with? My colours are almost identical albeit the Bahia Granite benchtop is laminated! The cupboards are Pearl Bisque, handles flat C, and all appliances are stainless steel. I have NO idea for splashback..well, maybe some, but am open to others!! Please forgive me if I'm too nosy!! My splashback is plain antique white tiles, fairly large and with a slight ripple effect. Not expensive at all and honestly the best look for me. I almost weakened and put in some feature tiles but experience has taught me that feature tiles ALWAYS become annoying after a few years. I have come to realise that my decorating style is a lot like my own wardrobe - I like to keep everything simple and classic and then add in the interest with the accessories. Decorating my house is the same as it is so very easy to change the accessories but changing tiles and floors becomes a very big task. Hopefully I will soon be renovating my small downstairs ensuite and I am going to stay strong and stick with white tiles on the walls, white toilet, vanity, steel taps etc and possibly a terracotta colour on the floor. No strips of feature tiles for me - I'll liven it up with the towels etc. Not sure if any of this helps but good luck! Re: Help needed for my splashback tiles 4Apr 05, 2009 9:24 am It helps lots, thank you! I certainly agree with keeping it simple. I did that in my new bathroom. Floor to ceiling tiles, one colour, very neutral, everything white and chrome. Did lash out and design my own vanity because i absolutely hate white melamine vanities, but that is a personal choice! I went with the single strip of tiles as an accent, but not sure now, I keep looking at it and not positive i like it! It's staying!! LOL Any chance of a pic of your kitchen?? I've attached my bathroom, it's very warm looking, but think that's the setting on my camera. I jazzed everything up with different colour towels and accessories. It's very different and I absolutely love it, a BIG change from the lean-to out the back!! In my (very small) ensuite renovation, I think I will use a white pedestal rather than a vanity at all. I'll get a mirrored cupboard and have it set into the wall. It is a very little ensuite and really just used as a toilet mostly, but I still want to maximise the space and of course, it has to look nice. I am also going to put in the steel wall handles in shower and toilet for visiting, aging relatives. Hopefully I can find something that is simple but strong and supportive. I don't want the mother in law to fall over, injury herself and then have to stay on while recovering!! PS I have a day off tomorrow, so I will try to take a few photos of my kitchen. Re: Help needed for my splashback tiles 6Apr 05, 2009 8:11 pm Thanks for your nice words. Mine is not too large, 2.7 X 2.7m. I've maximized as much as I can and bought an over the toilet stand which holds heaps of stuff. Most people don't like it out on display, but have used cane baskets, and I love the clutter look, albeit tidy! I put extra towels up there too. The photo I took just after installing, there is more there now. I bought it at K-Mart.
