Browse Forums Kitchen Splashbacks 1 May 20, 2023 10:03 pm Hi, I am renovating a kitchen and removed splashback tiles from the gyprock which is glued to a besser block wall. My question is, do I try to remove the gyprock and replace it before retiling or tile over the old gyprock which is a bit damaged obviously? What’s the best option? Photos shows gyprock on besser on left hand side.

Just scrape off the loose bits of paper and any little dags of old tile adhesive and then tile over it all. If there are any large chunks or damaged areas you could patch them with some base coat, but the pictures look ok. Re: Removing gyprock from besser block wall 5May 23, 2023 9:20 pm You only need to fill the holes. Looking at the pictures it's all pretty sound. If the paper is still intact then it's fine just to tile over it. If there are areas that have ripped out then just fill them and scrape them flush. It doesn't need to be a perfect finish like you would if you are painting it's just to provide a flat, sound surface for the tiles to stick to. Base coat can fill deeper holes and goes off quickly so you can get everything patched pretty quick. That would seal and help bind it all before tiling.
