Browse Forums Laundry Appliances 1 Jun 21, 2011 8:56 pm Hi.........I'm planning a minor kitchen/laundry renovation which will include concealing a washing machine + dryer (dryer wall mounted above WM) side-by-side with a laundry sink on one side of a passage. I DON'T want to use hinged concealing doors (as you might do if this was part of kitchen) as the doors would block thoroughfare when they are open. Also don't particularly like sliding doors as they don't give flush finish (and you're continually moving them side-to-side to gain access to left or right sides of the concealed space). Conceptually I have the idea of some sort of ceiling to floor vertical (or horizontal ?) roller shutter door......... Are there such doors in the market place? Any other ideas from anybody? All suggestions/comments welcomed! Thanks BigRInOz Re: Concealing laundry appliances 2Jun 21, 2011 9:28 pm You could try the companies that do roller shutters for windows. Re: Concealing laundry appliances 3Jun 23, 2011 11:05 am What about a hinged door that when it is open slides back into the laundry area? That way from the outside when the door is closed it looks like a normal door and is flush against the surrounds, but when it's open it slides into the space next to the washer/dryer so won't block your walkway. I'm not sure if that's what you mean by hinged concealing doors or not so apologies if I've misunderstood you. 2fk Re: Concealing laundry appliances 6Jun 23, 2011 8:13 pm TwoFatKitties What about a hinged door that when it is open slides back into the laundry area? But then I was confused too cos of the words hinged concealing doors but then I thought that means doors to conceal the laundry not doors that conceal themselves otherwise BigRinOz wouldn't talk about them blocking the thouroughfare? I suppose there's a special name for those types of hinges? Edit No. 1 Google says pocket door hinge. Edit No. 2 I thinks thats the doors in mapcalla's picture. Re: Concealing laundry appliances 7Jun 24, 2011 7:23 am Cabinetmakers do roller doors for appliance cupboards and the like, but I'm not sure that a floor to ceiling one is possible. I think the pocket hinged doors are your best option. Re: Concealing laundry appliances 8Jun 24, 2011 8:40 am Yep the picture that mapcalla put up was pretty much what I was thinking too, I just didn't know what they are called. You could definitely get a good cabinetmaker to do a nice custom job on those doors so it looks just like the rest of your house. We have a similar situation where our laundry is in a sort of double doored cupboard and I have been thinking about these hinged doors too. I did some hunting and found some more photos of the doors closed and also opened. http://www.flickr.com/photos/smartpack/4517715996/in/set-72157623845381556/ 2fk Re: Concealing laundry appliances 12Oct 27, 2011 6:41 am I've used bi-fold doors that have the mechanism at the ceiling portion of the door, so it ends up half the size of your normal door. If necessary, you can have two bi-folds, as I have as it's for a two door cupboard, and it'll be very compact, but will double the price. It's been reliable over the past 4-5 years, and as it's a home office cupboard, it does get used a lot. Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4072 Hey all, Hoping for some inspiration for my bathroom laundry combo. The tiles are in good condition, as is the bathtub.
