Browse Forums Laundry 1 May 03, 2014 11:33 pm The Vinyl Wrap Panel is peeling in one section 12 months after installation with no known heat or steam near the panel. Both the manufacturer (PolyTec) and the Installer (Wood Wizards) deny responsibility and say that it is not a manufacturing defect. Any suggestions? (Have a photo but don't know how to attach it) Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 2Jul 08, 2014 5:40 pm Mention fair trading and they should fix it. It should delaminate in that time. IS there much moisture in there? If they're denying a manufacturing defect, what are they saying the cause is? Quality is like buying oats. If you want good, fresh oats, you'll pay a fair price. However,if you can be satisfied with the oats that have already been through the horse, that comes a little cheaper. Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 5Jul 08, 2014 8:33 pm The Installer Wood Wizards have agreed to replace the panel. Due to be fixed next week Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 7Jul 08, 2014 9:39 pm They initially said the dog did it but it is wrinkled as if heat applied. Another opinion from an independent builder was that is was a fault in the laminate. There is no heat or moisture in this part of the room ( and no toothmarks in the substrate!) Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 9Jul 09, 2014 9:15 am Vinyl wrap doors are no good if in sunlight or around heat areas, I still dont know why companies even keep selling this product. The way they are made is spraying a heat activated glue on the mdf door and than placed into a vacuum form machine which basically heats up the vinyl to make it soft and enough to get the glue to activate, than under quick and high pressure air the vinyl is stretched, pressed and formed onto the door. The temperature used to do this is not that high therefor when around ovens it activates the glue again and the vinyl lifts and when its cooling tends to shrink back as there is no pressure keeping it in place. Another reason for the peeling of panels is installers trimming the panel, if you cut any of the edges the vinyl will start to slowly pull back to its original form and peel itself back off as it is shrinking back to normal state. Steer clear of these doors altogether. Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 10Jul 10, 2014 5:51 pm I agree with Splashers above. Its a terriable product that can have trouble with sunlight!! Hell I have seen a kitchen where the vinyl wrap totally fell off almost every door after 2years!! I strongly recommend against using it!! The only reason why large companies push it is that it cuts down on production time compared to polyurethane. Never experienced any problems with peeling in just over 10 years. product is not as bad as painted by some. Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 13Jul 10, 2014 9:13 pm I have had them in my last two builds and loved them. We just removed some from the bathroom in this reno only because they were the wrong colour. They were 15 years old and in perfect condition! Re: Laundry Vinyl Wrap Panel 14Jul 10, 2014 11:48 pm I guess for the professionals on this site, we've seen enough failures in vinyl wrap too not be particularly enthusiastic about it. Realistically, for the amount of vinyl wrap that is installed it probably isn't as bad as we sometimes think, however, the truth is, vinyl wrap has a failure rate 100's of times higher than melamine or polyurethane because they basically don't fail.
