Browse Forums Laundry 1 Aug 01, 2013 9:16 am Morning fellow H1'ers.... We have had our laundry cabinetry/fit quote come back - it is a few dollars over $5k. This is to supply and fit "gloss finish laminex" cabinetry (to a laundry 2.6 x 1.8 (base and wall cabinets on one side including one 600mm deep tall linen cupboard) - and a narrow sliding door cupboard on the other side 1200 x 450. 20mm CS bench top (finished to look like a 40mm but for the purposes of the costing, is actually only 20mm thick). Supplied, installed, including GST, moving one power point and including a plumbing charge of $750 to move the plumbing (drain) approx. 1200mm (if that) - which will be done by getting under the house (we will create the access). No ripping up of tiles or plasterboard, no splashback or tiling. How does this price sound? I am a tad disappointed because he origianlly quoted something more in line with what we had in mind, but I guess that didn't include GST - and perhaps not the plumbing.... but I was hoping for about $1k less. Maybe my expectations are unrealistic? I like the guy so am not going to bother getting more quotes - I"d rather work with this guy to see what we can do to reduce costs.... but just asking for feedback on where this price sits. Thanks, HHCIB Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 2Aug 01, 2013 1:06 pm Considering its gloss Laminex and CS bench top I think that's a fairly good price Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 3Aug 01, 2013 1:48 pm also thinking is a good price considering the CS benchtop and the moving of plumbing and electrical. Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 4Aug 01, 2013 6:54 pm Thanks guys. Yes, I didn't think it was exorbitant...... but I just wanted to make sure it was reasonable (preferably 'good' ). We are going to try and tweak a few things just to bring it down here and there. But once we have that all in place, we'll go for it. I asked in another thread, but does anyone think it would look totally 'wrong' to have a wall-mounted dryer jutting into the window space?? If we do it this way, the dryer would be set back maybe 300mm (??) back from the wall which has the window, but still, will be jutting out about 150mm deep into the line of the window? To do this would mean we could leave the laundry tub where it is - and leave the washing machine where it is - eliminating both the plumbing and electricity expense. But, I don't want to go and save myself a grand if it means the laundry looks totally wrong. So.... basically - just picture a dryer that is deeper than the wall space therefore encroaches into the line of the window (at about 300mm back from the wall/window). What do ya think?? Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 5Aug 01, 2013 7:03 pm How much money would you save?? In my current laundry the whole washing machine is next to a window (sliding door). Im not one to show off my laundry to everyone who comes over etc. Although my new one is going to be pretty so maybe I will haha Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 6Aug 01, 2013 8:13 pm Hi Leanne, not even thinking from the perspective of others seeing it (although it is opposite our kitchen and in a fairly visible location within our house), but more from the perspective of me having to see it daily (when working in kitchen i tare straight into the laundry and out the laundry window) - and wanting a nice streamlined laundry . To move it would save me the $750 plumbing and whatever he has factored in to move the electrical outlet. And.... Would put the dryer directly above the washing machine - possibly another visually streamlined placement???? And, would allow me to vent directly outside (seems thisis also recommended). Main concern is whether it will look ok having a dryer that sits out into the window space?? And/or how important saving $750 is compared to the end look. Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 7Aug 01, 2013 8:22 pm Oh if you have see it all the time then it would prob annoy me. My current one is down hallway and new one is behind my kitchen haha. Maybe make a cardboard cut out and stick it up? Is there space put dryer under a bench instead? Re: What do you think of this laundry quote?........ 8Aug 02, 2013 8:12 am Good idea re cardboard cut out - finding the time and the cardboard is another story LOL. As for the space under the bench, when I get some time I will try to play around and see if I can get it to fit. I think, though, that it is going to mean narrowing my 900mm linen cupboard. I just need to find out how much allowance I have to allow for a side by side washing machine and dryer. For eg, alone, the cabinet maker was going to allow 630mm for a 600mm washing machine. (I thought this was erring on the higher side, was hoping more like 620mm). But if two are side by side - do I need to allow for 1260mm - or would 1240mm be OK? Or what?? (I as myself aloud ). Will do some research, and call cabinet maker. It would be good to have them side by side but space is tight so not sure. Thanks again Leanne. So just thought I'd stop by in here to let you all know that our laundry finally got installed . Still a few little bits and pieces to be 'tidied up' by the installer - and still have a big gap where a dryer will eventually go (will hold off on that until next winter now).... but all in all am quite happy with it all. Such a luxury to actually have some benchspace!! Will post some photos when it is all finished properly (but probably in my original thread - if I can find it) HHCIB No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6984 hey there! π so, itβs kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 21192 I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14490 |
