Browse Forums Laundry 1 Aug 15, 2011 8:07 pm Hi All We have newly renovated our laundry and are now wondering whether to tile, put in a splashback or a mirror backing. Our kitchen has a splashback and the laundry is near this room. Splashback area though would probably cost about $900 to cover. Would a mirror backing/tiles be cheaper? I know that it would depend on the tiles how much that would cost. And what are people doing these days regarding laundries? Thanks in advance. Laundry - splashback, mirror or tiles? 2Aug 15, 2011 8:43 pm Is it an area that is going to be seen by visitors? If it is / and or adjoins say a kitchen that also has a similar splash then I would for continuity. However if it was way up the other end of the house not normally seen by guests (like mine) then personally I wouldn't spend that sort of money. I used a mosaic tile to do my laundry splash as it picked up the colours in my benchtop. But my motto is "Do what makes your heart sing" so if it is what YOU want and can afford then go ahead - you have to live in the house - no one else. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Laundry - splashback, mirror or tiles? 3Aug 15, 2011 11:57 pm Oooh, tough decision. One thing with a mirrored splashback, what will you be reflecting? Laundrys are usually quite narrow, so if its just a plain white wall on the other side, then you may not be getting value for money by reflecting it. If you have something like this (which I felll in love with, but couldn't justify) then go for it: Re: Laundry - splashback, mirror or tiles? 4Aug 16, 2011 12:06 pm alt0160 Oooh, tough decision. Re: Laundry - splashback, mirror or tiles? 5Aug 16, 2011 10:09 pm Thanks everyone. Some good points raised. It is a narrow room with just a white wall on the other side so agree the mirror would be wasted. The laundry is close to the kitchen (almost coming off it) but the door is always closed. Now that it is looking so gorgeous not as vital to keep it closed. Bought the piece of splashback for the kitchen only this year. Wonder if their would have been an off cut piece so cheaper than going back to the company now. Do you think it could be too much of the same thing if we went the same colour as the kitchen though? DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Ditto 3M Claw, expensive but best thing I've used to date. I put two of the 11kg ones in for a 12kg mirror on the wall, and its been great for 4 years now. 4 2141 Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4090 Hey all, Hoping for some inspiration for my bathroom laundry combo. The tiles are in good condition, as is the bathtub.
