Browse Forums Laundry 1 Apr 28, 2011 11:18 am Do you think blinds in a laundry are pointless? And do you also think a bathroom and toilet (mid height window) need blinds even though have privacy glass and on 'dead side' of house? Re: Do laundries need blinds? 2Apr 28, 2011 11:22 am Our laundry, main bathroom and toilet are on the dead side of the house, privacy wasnt an issue for us but the sun beating on that side of the house did, so we were forced to put up blockout roller blind in the laundry and I cant belive the difference it makes in keeping the room cooler. So they all have matching blinds. All our bathrooms - other then the nursery ensuite which is internal - have windows so they have timber look venetians to match the facade windows. But in saying that none of our windows other then the main ensuite which is on the dead side of the house are obscure glass. Being part of the facade they all have clear glass. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Do laundries need blinds? 4Apr 28, 2011 11:29 am We have a door with an internal blind for the laundry. It's west facing so gets very hot in the afternoon without any cover. Remember with privacy glass people can still see more than you might imagine at night if there's a light on. The other issue is that the glass will be a point of heat transfer/loss. Windows coverings will keep the heat out in summer and keep the heat in during winter. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I have blinds on all windows except the obscured glass in ensuite & bathroom, although down the track I would like to get blinds on them too, as I still feel a bit hesitant about the privacy factor! Did you consider a vertical blind for the laundry? I'm tossing up between a roller blind and a vertical blind for ours - quite like the way you can control how much light you get with verticals. Re: Do laundries need blinds? 7Apr 28, 2011 3:01 pm I'm thinking of missing the laundry as that only gets morning sun and I really dont think I'd ever have them down (rollerblinds) and the dryer up in the way there is no need to match with anything either. I do want the bathroom and toilet done for heat and privacy. Just needed opinions before spending $$$. Do laundries need blinds? 8Apr 28, 2011 3:54 pm We put blinds in our laundry. A privacy thing for me even though tree will be no traffic down that side of the house. Was $190 for blinds and installation for the laundry. Re: Do laundries need blinds? 9Apr 28, 2011 3:56 pm Hi Tam - are they the 89mm ones and what size are they and where did you get them?? Do laundries need blinds? 10Apr 28, 2011 4:01 pm Yep, they are. Vista came and did the whole house. Individually every window covering was cheap but all together cost and arm and a leg. I have little miss asleep on my chest but when she wakes I can go and measure. Re: Do laundries need blinds? 11Apr 28, 2011 4:03 pm Thanks Tam - and that's a lovely picture you've put in my mind! Re: Do laundries need blinds? 14Apr 28, 2011 5:02 pm We had vertical blinds put in the laundry in our previous house and never used them so this time around we didnt bother putting them in. But we still put in blinds on the toilet and bathroom windows even with the frosted glass. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Do laundries need blinds? 15Apr 28, 2011 5:07 pm We'll need them because the laundry will get the hot summer sun in the afternoons same as the rental we are currently in which has no blinds and is like an oven!! Re: Do laundries need blinds? 19Apr 30, 2011 7:09 pm We have a clear glazed door in the laundry and no blinds. No intention of adding any, either. There are no privacy issues and I don't live in there, so comfort isn't a problem either. Bathrooms and toilet have venetians for light control and to block sun in summer. Re: Do laundries need blinds? 20Apr 30, 2011 9:46 pm I have a large glass sliding door in my laundry with verticals. It is on the midday-sunset side of the house and gets very hot in summer (combined with black floor tiles!!) It is also on the non dead side of the house - along the same wall as 2 full height windows) so they all have matching. If it was on the dead/non sunny side of the house I prob wouldnt have bothered. I don't have blinds on toilet or bathroom as it is the dead side and they both have privacy glass. Would possibly look at adding some in later down the track. I do have a blind on the ensuite window (block out roller) even tho that is dead side and privacy glass. This is mainly because there is no door between the ensuite and bedroom and as a shift worker I like a room as dark as possible.
