Browse Forums Laundry Re: Laundry upstairs - am I crazy!? 21Apr 27, 2011 9:00 pm I think the only issue I will be with the noise. A washing machine on ground floor is quieter because it is usually on a solid slab. Also a full washing machine weighs ALOT while it wont fall through, the weight is really only supported by four little feet. So you will wont to make sure things are solid underneath it, the movement from vibration will annoy me. Re: Laundry upstairs - am I crazy!? 22Apr 27, 2011 9:19 pm Is it impractical to actually have 2 washing machines. My old house had 2 laundry's. One downstairs along with the "builders shower" in the storage area off the back of the garage. Full size laundry tub, all the plumbing and electricity. Upstairs was a small laundry which had been removed of all the plumbing. We replaced it again and there was only room for a washer and wall hung dryer above. We added a half size laundry tub. According to one of the neighbours the house owner previously had both laundry's working as the owner didn't like her husbands work (mechanic) clothes in with all the regular laundry. I LOVED having two laundry's. It would not have been impossible to have two machines either. If we had to remain living there I would have purchased a second washing machine for the downstairs laundry. I have a second laundry plumbing supplied and capped in my garage in our new house too and will be getting just a laundry tub installed. Re: Laundry upstairs - am I crazy!? 23Apr 27, 2011 9:37 pm While I like the idea of a laundry upstairs, I think it would really affect the sale-ability of a house to have the only option of washing upstairs unless there was a drying balcony that went with it with a line large enough for sheets. I think the majority of Australians hang their washing outside, with that trend likely to stay as electricity prices continue to rise. I wouldn't buy a house if I had to carry heavy baskets of wet washing downstairs to hang it out and I wouldn't hang my washing on an upstairs balcony, even one at the back or side, unless it was screened from plain view in some way. Laundry upstairs - am I crazy!? 24Apr 28, 2011 5:36 am My house is similar, 3 levels but my kitchen, living, dining is on the top level with main bed and study then 3 beds on the garage/entry level and laundry on the bottom level with bar/rumpus. This leads out to alfresco, pool area and I have a laundry shute which with 3 levels is a must I think. I personally would have the laundry as far away from bedrooms as possible to do early or late loads, those spin cycles can be deafening and I probably would steer clear of buying a house with an upstairs laundry. The kitchen area sounds more practical if you don't want to go to the bottom level, if the family can walk there to get food they can drop their washing off on the way and pick it up on their way back up. I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12407 I have a home gym at home. It weights 150KG including the weight stack. I'm a big boy, around 150KG myself. I was thinking about moving it up stairs to the second… 0 6308 Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4093 |
