Browse Forums Laundry 1 Jan 05, 2011 4:15 pm I couldn't find a 'laundry' forum so I thought I would try this one - Moderators let me know if you want to move it - Anyway - added a 3rd toilet into our plan months ago which took up the laundry cupboard space. I am now lost as to where I am going to put my vaccuum, broom and ironing board. I am going to have overhead cupbords in the laundry - for irons, washing powder etc... Any ideas? Should I just get a free standing cupboard and put it in the garage? hmmm Building with Life$tyle Homes in Perth SOR Key Dates on First Page of my Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38761 Re: Broom Cupboard - Where can I put it??? 2Jan 05, 2011 4:35 pm Can you put one behind the toilet in the laundry, in the little hallway there? The broom cupboard in our last house was only about 30cm wide and I was able to fit my ironing board, mop, broom and various other bits and pieces in it. You would be suprised how much you can fit in. It looks like yours could be about 380mm wide Re: Broom Cupboard - Where can I put it??? 3Jan 05, 2011 6:05 pm You could fit a double cupboard opposite the garage entry door which would pinch some space out of your games room, but would be handy and accessible from both the laundry and kitchen. You could then match up with a void on the opposite side of the games room and create a centered alcove recess for shelving or an entertainment unit. Re: Broom Cupboard - Where can I put it??? 4Jan 05, 2011 7:16 pm I tend to store stuff where I use it - so broom for me in your house would hang on the wall in the WIP. The ironing board in the spare bedroom wardrobe, likewise the vacuum. If you wanted a dedicated cupboard you could get a shallow one at the end of the hall that finishes behind your powder room. (you can have a sliding door so you can still have it covered i really like your plan. the house is huge! may i suggest a double shower in the main just bring the wall straight across. as its such a grand house i think it will add value. my other sggestion is to take back abit of space from the games and then in the remaining space that you wont really be able to use have a bar installed and change the toilet in the laundry back into a linen. this might work better so cleaning stuff is all together...hhhmm the more i think about it the more i like this option. but i think i would change the other bit anyway for storage due to the shape. looking forward to following your build!! what size block have you got? where? Hi Sharkey There was originally cupboards where the laundry toilet is, but we made it a toilet so guests would need to tramp through the kids bedrooms (young children) at night. I like the idea of the cupboard behind the WIR in B2. That WIR layout has bothered me a bit for a while. With the double shower we are still deciding. We don't shower at the same time (am/pm) So we didn't know if we would use it. I am going to ask at prestart how much it would be and whether I think it would be more of an 'investment' on value. It is cheap enough I probably will do it. Our block is in Kardinya it is 800sqmts. Well - it's meant to be as it is 20x40 but it seems to be slightly less? Yes well - the laundry basin is a ceramic one with just a normal tap, so DH's stinky mates can just use that. jk. The builder designed the whole back section on a couple of notes from me, so I might ask them to slip in some more storage. I just said I wanted a dual ensuite bathroom, WIR's and I didn't want the toilet near the rooms. And TADAAA, they did it. Never would have thought of all that myself. I am going to ask for a cupboard near WIR B2. To solve my vacuum cupboard. SO THANKS! Why didn't you like your builder? I like mine - but then - I havn't done prestart yet, or built a house, so things might change. The current location of your window in your ensuite doesn't allow for this - you would have to swap for a high up window that isn't very big heightwise. I like the idea of adjusting that WIR to include the broom/linen cupboard. It's a very odd shape and seems like a waste of space. If you wanted you could also look at changing the bathroom and WIR doors in bed 3 to ones that slide. I don't really like the way the door opens across the bath like that, and the robe door opening into bedroom may make furniture placement harder then it needs to be. I am not sure on the orientation of your house but Another tip is make sure your kitchen has enough lighting (or possibly think about - even in the future installing a skylight) The current placing in the centre of the house along with the small windows in games means you will probably have to use the lights even in daytime - my parents kitchen is like this after a addition to the house and even with the skylight installed the lights r used during the daytime because it is no where near bright enough. Just some things I have thought of that you may not have noticed. Just some things I have thought of that you may not have noticed. I see what you mean about all the doors. I walked through a Ross Griffin house which had doors like this and it didn't phase me too much. I don't really like sliding doors because of the light and noise they let through. I don't mind pocket doors though. Yeah the kitchen will have a skylight. Still trying to decided what size and where. I am thinking in the centre, but I don't want it to be eyesore! We are havinga skylight in the hall way too. Exactly my thoughts! Also - our old house had the kids bathroom layout like that - works really well, BUT they almost smashed the shower door THAT many times because they clash if they leave the shower door open, or open the door and shower at the same time - is there any way you can make the one that opens to the shower a cavity slider? I am trying to think how I could make the bathroom have wet room idea. I would need to have sloping floor though. $$? hmmm - I hate cleaning shower screens! Costs you more after because your paying variation fees. As for sliding door on WIR/bathroom entry from bedroom I meant something like this Wish I had thought to get them on my built in robes.
