Browse Forums Laundry Re: Laundry Renovation 2Feb 06, 2010 6:40 pm I don't have a recommendation, but any cabinet maker who does kitchens would be able to handle a laundry for you. Depending on how much space you have, I suggest you add as much extra storage as possible. It's amazing how much stuff we accumulate and have nowhere to put. At the very least, think about whether you need extra linen storage. Also consider: Will ironing be done in there? If so, you need space and power for that. Will you need to dry clothes indoors (not in the dryer...)? Think about adding a fold-down or pull-out clothesline, like the Hills Foldaline mini. You'll not only need wall space, but also space under it to allow for clothes to hang. At the very least, leave room for a portable clothes airer, to avoid having washing hanging around living rooms. Will the room double as sewing/craft room, space for small DIY projects, or anything else? Do you have a front loader or top loader? Any chance that will change in the future? Think about provision for grey water....water restrictions aren't likely to get any less strict. At the very least, add a diverter for future use. The best laundries are organised like a production line, with space for sorting, washing, drying, folding and ironing. You can fit a lot into even a small space if it's well organised. We'll get to it one of these days... http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i18/kerrynw/19112008530_1_1.jpg So on this side, I have the bench for sorting, sink for soaking or handwashing, plus washer and dryer (stacked). Below the bench is a cupboard for cleaning products and a space for two laundry hampers - darks and lights need to be separate. The overhead cabinets contain detergents, iron, lingerie bags, and various other washing paraphenalia. I also have spare batteries and light globes, sewing box, plus craft bits and pieces up there. On the opposite side we have a big blank space - that will eventually contain a one-metre cabinet with benchtop and overheads, to match the existing cabinetry. That's going to hold large bins or baskets for sorting clean washing and storing the stuff I need to iron. Next to it will be a fold-down clothesline mounted on the wall. There's a power point under the future drying space, which is where I do the ironing. We have ducted heating, and I had an extra vent placed in the laundry so that I actually have a hope of getting washing dry in Melbourne's cold winter. The laundry opens off a small mud room with entry from the garage - that contains a large double cupboard, which is for broom/vac/ironing board storage, plus extra linen and general storage. It also generally contains a large number of shoes. I plan to add some hooks for jackets and umbrellas etc as well. The laundry is approximately 2.3m x 2.4m and the mud room 2.3m x a bit less than 2m (it has an angled wall on one side, so it's an odd shape). That gives an idea of the planning that went into my laundry - you might use yours for different things, or have more or less space to work with. Hopefully some of this info is useful to you anyway. Would you consider accessing the separate toilet from the laundry? If so maybe… 1 11258 Agreed. I just found out today the certifier has not given the final sign off. 2 4094 Hey all, Hoping for some inspiration for my bathroom laundry combo. The tiles are in good condition, as is the bathtub. I’ve given it a coat of white paint and added… 0 14123 |
