Browse Forums Laundry 1 Nov 16, 2008 9:21 am My laundry probably would go on the north. The standard door is a non-glazed timber door and there is a small sliding window for the washing trough wall. thinking whether to modify and would kindly seek opinion or which options to go? why for that
A) Original: non glazed timber door+ small window at washing trough wall $ 0 as standard B) have half glazed timber door ( then no small window at trough) + around $120 C) upgrade to sliding glass door ( also no small window as the door width is already occuping ) + around $450 thanks very much for ur opinion. Spring is here! Hurray! Re: Opinion on laundry door 2Nov 16, 2008 9:26 am I'm having a half glazed timber door for two reasons, laundry is west facing so don't want too much sun, and so a cat door can go in the door easily.
I'd go a half glazed wood door and a little window. A little window is handy to vent and let in some air. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Opinion on laundry door 4Nov 16, 2008 11:36 am We have done the half glazed timber door and a small window above the trough - like others have mentioned you need some openable window for air flow as well as light.
I know sliding glass doors are popular on laundries now, but not a fan of them myself - can't see the need for such large area of glass on a laundry, and then you won't be able to put window covering on it: you either have it opaque or large vision of your semi-naked self hurriedly ironing work uniform in your underwear etc (or perhaps you lot are all more organised than me ) You also lose small strip of usable space as door has to slide into it, therefore trough is set back bit from the wall, that strip will get gungy and hard to get into to clean, the inside bottom of the fixed window will also be hard to get to; much better to have trough built flush against wall IMO. And as mentioned on another thread - if you have a pet and want a pet flap door, they are much easier to put into standard timber door. Re: Opinion on laundry door 5Nov 16, 2008 11:45 am I am having a full timber door and will have an opaque sliding window next to it which will be next to where clothes dryer, wash mach is....I need to put a doggy door in as well. At present I have a big double sliding glass door which isn't necessary, it just gets dirty in the tracks and then we have a venetian over it that gets dirty, I never use this door to get to the clothes line anymore, it really isn't necessary to have so much glass in the laundry, there is a lot of dust and dirt gets in a laundry, specially if one's son is a concretor. Re: Opinion on laundry door 7Nov 16, 2008 1:04 pm I was aiming for a full timber door and small window but was talked into the half glazed door instead. I wish now we had a small window as well for ventilation.
I am definately not a fan of the full glass sliding doors. The tracks get filled with sand and gunk and as someone said the small space between the fixed glass section and your trough or washing machine or cabinet space does get filthy . yuk.. It's also a pain in the butt to paint. We had the sliding glass door in our last house and for privacy we put up a light curtain rail and hung 2 sets of those colourful fly streamer strip things. This gave us some privacy and they could be replaced on a regular basis as they got grungy. You could also find some of that shower material that looks like curtaining but is easily washed and slightly waterproof and use this. Or use beaded curtians. Re: Opinion on laundry door 8Nov 16, 2008 2:06 pm In our current rental, we have no window but has a half glazed door - When we run the dryer it is an absolute pain with all the moisture settling on the tiles and it makes it slippy
We have gone for half glazed timber door and and a window near the tough. As for sliding doors - All that glass and having to maintain it especially if a dryer is to be used.....Personally don't think that's practical. Cheers beegee Re: Opinion on laundry door 9Nov 16, 2008 2:21 pm We are having one of those impractical sliding doors. Seems like they are standad here. Sounds like they are a chore to keep clean..... Something I try to avoid!
When we went to pre-start I didn't think to ask about changing it, I dont think we would have been able to anyway. If it was me, I would go with option A.. and then later down the track if you want the windowed door, just replace the solid one. That way you get both. I really love the windowed doors with the blind in between the glass. Very practical! Re: Opinion on laundry door 11Nov 16, 2008 5:56 pm Opoos! I think I didn't really think of the problems of sliding glass door.
I began wondering if it is nice after visiting those displays! really be influenced by the clear vista after the CLean glass and brightness it brings to home. Now, really seem glass takes extra time to manage and in turn bring extra workload to me! nono! the house we're living now have a openable window and also a fully glazed hinged door. however, i really don't haven't opened the door and used that just as everyone else used to go to the clothesline thro' living rm sliding door! also, i just think it is nice for sliding glass dr and forgot it really would look nasty provided if I am messy and managing the underwears or dirty clothes in the laundry. i also have considered option 1 and and change the door at a later time, but husband mentioned it was not as easy as I thought to change the door. I don't have a pet, so the door of pet can be neglected. well that means I will either go option 1 or 2. thanks for bringing valuable opinions. nine brains are really nicer than one! Spring is here! Hurray! Move your linen into laundry and access laundry from your present linen space 1 8014 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6144 these look like missing batts. Go up and take a look. But yeah moisure meter is a completely different tool 4 9460 |
