Browse Forums Laundry 1 Feb 06, 2021 2:10 pm G'day I am curious about my laundry floor, I have removed the old tiles and am going to lay new tiles, but the floor is very uneven, in some parts the floor adhesive previously was in some parts 2 inches thick and some parts not even a centimetre thick, I do not want to replicate that but know that i have to have the floor slightly lower for the drain. Should I lay a thin layer of cement first then retile? Re: Laundry floor 2Feb 06, 2021 2:26 pm What you are seeing is not tile adhesive but the screed (sand and cement) that tilers use to form the fall into the floor. The tiles are then stuck to the screed. When you remove the tiles often the screed is also ripped up in patches. You have two options. First, you rip up all of the screed and then re-screed the floor. Second, you patch the existing floor screed. Whatever you do, you need to make sure that the surface under the tiles is nice and flat (no lumps or hollows) and is sound. That will give you the best chance of getting the tiling looking good and not having any issues down the track.
