Hi, I believe this is a self cleaning oven. Does anyone have one and have any advise on them? I’m worried at how got they get to self clean.
Thankyou

I just used the self cleaning function for the first time on the weekend ( 2 days ago) and I haven't been able to unlock our oven door since. It is supposedly meant to be a safety feature and comes up with a key symbol on the display to show it is locked whilst in this mode. We have tried to reset it a few times with no result by unplugging at the mains power. After we did this the second time & left it off overnight our display finally came back on but the door still remains locked. We had a horrible smell at the end in our kitchen and we were wondering if the wiring had burnt out and our surrounding cabinets were also very hot to touch for quite a while. Of course, it happens to be out of warranty now so I am very unhappy at the moment as we paid hundreds of $ more to have this particular oven with the pyrolytic function installed by our builder. On checking around I see that our model has now been discontinued and now has bad reviews for this issue, although at the time when we bought it 3 years ago it had good reviews. Whatever brand you get make sure you use this feature whilst it is still within the warranty period. Re: Pyrolytic Oven 6Jun 27, 2018 7:25 pm Hi Shalee Thankyou for your reply! My oven will be built into a tower cabinetry, therefor I was worried about the cupboards heating as well. There isn’t much In terms of reviews but I’ll keep searching to be sure. To be honest I don’t want to pay the extra for the self cleaning. But thought why not, if will make my life easier. I may stick with a standard oven. Re: Pyrolytic Oven 7Jun 27, 2018 10:56 pm I certainly won't be game to use that function again when we get the problem resolved. The other thing I didn't realise about our oven until we had it installed and I read the instruction manual was that it is only the actual lining of the oven that can be self cleaned. According to the instructions we had to still clean the glass door separately so that any grease wasn't baked on during the self cleaning process and remove all of the stainles steel racks and side supports. So really we didn't save a huge amount of time anyway which is why we hadn't used that particular before . So unless other brands are different I don't think there is all that much to be gained. Re: Pyrolytic Oven 8Jul 03, 2018 10:41 am We have a Siemens pyro oven and it has worked great. I have used it twice since the oven was installed and it has cleaned out the oven completely. All you are left with is a fine grey dust that can be removed afterwards. The good thing about it is that it cleans in all the places that you cannot reach. In pyro mode the front door is quite warm to the touch, and is locked shut throughout the process and for a period of time afterwards until it cools. Whilst we have no young children in the house, with adequate supervision I don't see it being a problem. I would be more worried about buying a lesser known or cheaper brand pyro oven though. Hi Chippy, no there isn't, gave it a really good look through and literally opened everything and checked all edges as well.
