Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Nov 20, 2015 3:11 pm Hi everyone, we're getting so confused as to what oven(s) to buy! So a few questions I'm hoping someone can help with: 1. What are the benefits of full steam vs combi steam vs steam assist 2. If you have a combi steam oven, do you still need a 'regular' oven? 3. what's a good brand option (yet affordable)? Thanks! Re: Steam Oven questions 2Nov 20, 2015 6:37 pm I've rambled on about my combi-steam oven and how much I love it before so I'll keep it brief: 1. I went combi-steam because you can use it as a steam oven, or part-steam, there are some great uses for partial steam, eg. roasting meats, making bread, etc. I roast everything on 25% steam, which means the food roasts and browns like a normal oven, but maintains it's moisture. 2. I could easily manage with just my combi-steam, does everything my other oven does other than the fact my normal oven has pyro cleaning so I use it for anything messy, eg. pork crackling. With two ovens, 95% of my food goes in the combi, but 100% could so, it has exactly the same functions, plus the steam options. 3. Don't want to comment here, I imported an Electrolux which I think is German made (local Electrolux don't aren't a proper steam oven, they didn't have a 'steam generator' when I was looking). Meile and such brands were out of my price range, I actually wanted AEG but my choice came down to budget. I can say from looking for recipes (biggest challenge with a combi-steam) is that Meile, Bosch, VZUG, etc seem to have the most info and recipes available if that means anything. Hi Chippy, no there isn't, gave it a really good look through and literally opened everything and checked all edges as well.
