Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jun 17, 2015 11:16 pm We are in the process of choosing appliances for our new build. As I want 2 x 60 cm under bench ovens, I was going to go with 2 basic Bosch models. The sales guy said I should get the next level up (double the price) as you could switch off the fan and cook without it but the cheaper one hasn't got that option. As I've always had a gas oven, I don't know much about electric ovens so am asking what do people think? Is it a reasonable concern. Am I likely to want to cook without the fan? The model is HBG43S450A. http://www.appliancewarehouse.com.au/p- ... -oven.aspx Also am i better off going withe Miele base model which is reduced to 1499 http://www.appliancewarehouse.com.au/p- ... 2460b.aspx this month or the AEG which is reduced to 1499 till June 30. The AEG has a 5 yr warranty. http://www.appliancewarehouse.com.au/mc ... ovens.aspx thanks for your advice. Regards, Limefroggy Re: Difference between ovens 2Jun 18, 2015 12:23 am Hi, I have an AEG steam oven that also do cooking with fan and without and other functions. I don't use the steam function much now- after the novelty wore off- but I do find it good to use the steam cleaning function to fully clean the oven after using oven cleaner (every several months) - it takes the chore out of wiping all the oven cleaner off. I ordered my oven and aeg induction stovetop from deluxe appliances in Hungary- it was half the price of buying here- but no warranty a downside. However, in 2 years I've had no problems at all. When cooking I normally use the fan forced oven - as it's supposed to spread the heat around more evenly, for better even cooking. Also when using a fan forced oven you have to reduce the temperature from what's stated in recipes as the cooking temperature- often recipes will have both temps listed though Re: Difference between ovens 3Jun 18, 2015 12:26 am Also, I think the interior sizes of aeg were bigger than other brands 60cm ovens- check the interior sizes as all ovens vary- from memory I think Bosch were quite small inside. Re: Difference between ovens 4Jun 18, 2015 9:48 am Here are some things to take into account with ovens:
In your case, the fact that you're having two ovens suggests you have more than basic requirements for ovens, so there could be good reason to step up from the very basic oven. It shouldn't generally be costing twice as much to get those extra functions though. In our case, we're planning on using the standard Blanco oven that the builder provides, and then adding the AEG as the second oven. Re: Difference between ovens 5Jun 18, 2015 11:24 am We have one 900mm. Perfect for all occasions. Not sure on two small ones. You can do different things but can you get a decent turkey in one ? Our MW is also an oven - if necessary -so it can be used if needed. Re: Difference between ovens 6Jun 19, 2015 6:12 pm Thanks for all your replies. That gives me a good list of things to consider. I guess I will go with the bosch or aeg. Probably less expensive to fix. Are electric ovens more delicate than gas? Do they need repair more often? Regards, Limefroggy Re: Difference between ovens 7Jun 19, 2015 11:26 pm I just installed 2 x 60cm Siemens ovens, both pyro (really good end of financial year sale last June). Love them Re: Difference between ovens 8Jun 20, 2015 8:39 am Where did you get them dolphinblu? I think Siemens might be out of our price range. Regards, Limefroggy Re: Difference between ovens 9Jun 20, 2015 11:26 am limefroggy I got them from Winnings Appliances. They were cheaper than Miele and the deal on at the time saw me get the dishwasher for free I ended up with 2 pyro's because it was only a couple of hundred more for pyro with the special one. I purchased them in June and Winnings stored them until I was ready for delivery in the March. They were great. I also got a warming draw- love it. I keep hubbies dinner in there until he gets home, or food I've finished cooking whilst I wait for the rest to finish cooking. It runs on a low heat. You can also slow cook in it but I haven't tried this. Re: Difference between ovens 10Jun 20, 2015 5:37 pm We have had an AEG for the last 3 years. Has been great. Cooks well, reaches temp quickly, triple glazed door, and it was priced right with a 5 year warranty which at at the time no one else had. I don't know if this has changed. Certainly no complaints about the oven at all. I'd always choose gas stove and electric oven. I had a gas oven once when renting and I much prefer electric - as it isn't as likely to have hot spots closer to the flame. I haven't yet figured out why you'd want to switch off the fan tbh - I never use my oven without switching it on. It is true that not all 600mm ones are equal size internally - my parents lived in a rental with a 60cm oven but it was so small inside you could hardly get a big roasting dish in - so it is worth checking the dimensions. That said, it does not mean you need the most expensive one, we've recently replaced our oven and it was one of the cheapest - but has more space than many of the much more expensive ones. (not mentioning brands as I'm in the UK) Re: Difference between ovens 12Jun 20, 2015 8:34 pm After removing a double oven last year I bought to 60cm ovens. After much confusion I sent with one combi-steam and one Pyro. The combi-steam is great for cooking all sorts of stuff, I'm still learning, this oven is probably used 80% of the time. The pyrolytic cleaning is amazing, so I most do roasts in the Pyro or anything greasy, and everything else in the combi-steam. Re: Difference between ovens 13Jun 20, 2015 11:43 pm MalSannie I don't know why he was recommending getting an oven where you could switch off the fan. Maybe he was just thinking more features are better. eeney I would love a combi steam oven. Unfortunately the budget doesn't stretch that far. I might try to get one pyrolitic. Regards, Limefroggy Re: Difference between ovens 15Jun 28, 2015 9:57 pm I think i've decided to go with Westinghouse after all that! They have a good internal capacity and as they're made in Australia parts and servicing will be easier. I might go with one pyrolitic and one multifunction without the cleaning function. Regards, Limefroggy Re: Difference between ovens 16Jun 28, 2015 10:27 pm If you're looking at Westinghouse, also consider the basic Electrolux model with the knobs (EVE611) - with or without pyrolytic. Although marketed as a step up from the Westinghouse range, the pricing can be similar for given feature levels. Re: Difference between ovens 17Jun 28, 2015 10:37 pm Thanks oneJohn I will have a look Regards, Limefroggy Re: Difference between ovens 18Feb 29, 2016 8:24 pm Unlike conventional ovens, which cook food by surrounding it with hot air, convection ovens circulate the air. Convection ovens are built with a fan placed in the back of the oven. When you turn on the convection setting, the fan blows warm air all around the inside of the oven, promoting rapid and even heating. The hot air in conventional ovens just hangs around and sometimes leads to uneven results.
