Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Apr 26, 2014 4:42 pm Hello need advice on range hoods. We are looking at renovating our kitchen and will be installing a 90cm Gas cooktop and wanted members recommendations on range hoods. From reading this forum I think it comes down to either Qasair or Schweigen. We cook a lot of Asian foods so need a range hood with good suction to ensure the entire house does not smell of the food being cooked. Thanks in Advance. Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 2Apr 26, 2014 5:38 pm Good question. We also intend to cook a lot of asian food as my Wife is Asian. Inside we are using an induction cooktop so we went with Qasair Westmore as they have designed it specifically for induction. It will be a twin motor under cupboard mounted unit. We do not intend to cook much of the steamy/ oilly foods inside. Outside we are having a goldstein gas cooktop that should be around 900mm for the 6 burner. To extract from that we will use a Schweigan twin motor 1200mm wide unit. This is meant to be a BBQ extractor fan and it is very very quiet. Why get both. Well we will be building a double storey and I looked into both and to be honest I probably would have got a qasair had I not picked up the schweigen on a super deal at HN when i purchased all my other kitchen appliances. Remember I have not used either at this stage but based on the db readings and the extraction rates I am sure both will be good. Hope this helps. Ciao Mark Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 3Apr 27, 2014 7:31 pm Hey Mark thanks for your feedback. Can you give me some guidance on what each of the two range hoods set you back. I am also assuming the Qasair range hood has a vent outside the house? Cheers, Mario Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 4Apr 28, 2014 1:52 pm We've got a 90cm Schweigen undermount with 2 X Isodrive 650 motors and the suction has been great. We also do a lot of asian/indian cooking and our house doesn't seem to get clogged with the smell of food during/ after cooking. Noise level is good too as the motors are outside, so can't really complain. Cheers, Reece Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 6Apr 28, 2014 11:20 pm There's also a brand called Whispair which is distributed by the same company that distributes Franke sinks and Highland cooktops. They have nice baffle filters and good suction and like Schweigen their motors are outside so noise level is pretty good. http://www.whispair.com.au Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 7Jul 15, 2014 12:20 am Hello Jeager. Do you have a Schweigen or a Whispair Rangehood? I am doing research on rangehoods and have been recommeded to buy one of these and am not sure if I should consider Qasair instead. Was advised that Qasair will cost much more than either the Scheigen or the Whispair. Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 8Jul 16, 2014 2:30 pm AlPerth Hello Jeager. I did buy a qasair but found it too hard (and expensive) to install so I ended up selling it on ebay. I've seen both Scheweigen and Whispair in showrooms and I think they're similar but the Whispair seems to look nicer or better finished to me. With the qasair if you want to get the extended warranty you'll need to use one of their approved installers which means you can't really shop around on installation costs. Also you'll need thier own special ducting pieces for qasair. It's ok if it's a straight forward installation but for more complex installation you'll need to buy several different ducting pieces and it can add to the cost. If you do they will be the ones 'enjoying' the noise and smells of your kitchen. Re: Range hood recommendations - Qasair Vs Schweigen 10Sep 23, 2019 5:57 pm Dude. You've found every thread that mentions an external motor rangehood and resurrected it. We get that you don't like them and obviously have an issue with your neighbours installation but do you need to pull up a 5 year old post to flame them.
