Please let me know. Re: Laundry sink- too deep for washing dishes??? 2Nov 11, 2013 8:42 pm Why would you want one? What are the pros? Plumber sounds like a bit of a douche. Surely the bench height plays a part, and that's under your control. Laundry sink outdoors makes a lot of sense for the purposes you say. The only thing I would say is could you do the same thing indoors instead? I don't think I would do the dishes in a laundry trough though, as it seems more convenient to do them indoors - maybe big pots would be Ok though. Re: Laundry sink- too deep for washing dishes??? 5Dec 07, 2013 10:44 pm I think there are better options that are big enough to suit the purpose. I am having two normal size sinks at my place and a larger 720mm wide sink for the alfresco with the exact same thought for purpose. Size up the different options and then choose. But - go with what you want - not what the builder wants. Re: Laundry sink- too deep for washing dishes??? 8Jan 08, 2014 8:39 pm One option is to get a large kitchen sink for the laundry; we ended up with the Ikea BREDSKÄR kitchen sink, which is large enough for barbecue grills, and deep enough for soaking clothes, but not as deep as a normal laundry sink. Re: Laundry sink- too deep for washing dishes??? 9Jan 09, 2014 8:46 am When my Aunt who is now in her 70's renovated her kitchen and laundry combining them about 6 years ago she put in a normal kitchen sink and a laundry sink . Guess what, in the years since I've only ever seen her use the laundry sink as her kitchen/washing up sink and the kitchen sink & tap only gets used when she is filling a kettle. She doesn't have a dishwasher so all dishes are hand washed. I can't see how a laundry sink is that much different to those big farmhouse sink anyway. She doesn't seem to have a problem with it. I think it's a great idea. It saves carting the big grills, plates and big pans from your BBQ to the laundry to clean them which is what I have to do. More fool to the plumber if he can't think outside the box. More fool to the plumber if he can't think outside the box. I think this has more to do with the design of the kitchen and laundry. We have a kitchen sink large enough to fit a wok, so plenty of room there compared to the small sinks usually installed. The laundry is also in one line with our kitchen, with the same stone bench (but has a full height cavity slider than can close it off), so is almost like a butler's pantry. When we get around to fitting the vented door to the drying alcove, the laundry is almost concealed, as the front loader and dryer are under the benches, and will be the only sign of a laundry. Re: Laundry sink- too deep for washing dishes??? 11Jan 09, 2014 10:51 pm that's true PHL. But to be honest our BBQ plate gets quite grotty. I don't think I'd want to clean it in my kitchen sink carting it across household flooring. In the case of the OP they are asking if we think it's ok to go for a larger sink eg laundry size/type for an outdoor kitchen. My response is GO FOR IT! I use grills rather than plates (did have a half and half, and the plate always looked bad), and after one of the barbecue places showed me how to clean it after every use, have not had to take it in to clean. In the nearly 2 years since we've hd this barbecue, I've recently pressure washed it, more because of the soot from smoking with woodchips. As for the laundry sink outdoor, I was just pointing out there are sinks available that are as wide or wider than a laundry tub, but half to 2/3 the depth if bending is a concern.
