Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Mar 28, 2013 12:35 am We bought a Schweigen 90cm Isodrive 1600mm undermounted rangehood about 9 monthes ago and only installed 3 months ago as we are very slowly for the new house. The motor was installed as wall mounted and all installation carried by a licensed electrican. As soon as we started using this rangehood, our neighbour complained for the noise level of this rangehood. Finally the council involved and sent us a letter and notice. The rangehood was requested to immediately remove as it does not comply with local council requirements and Australian Standard. We also got a big fine about this. We tried to find a solution with Harvey Norman(where we bought the rangehood) and Schweigen Appliances to either exchange or refund. After many many phone calls, we have been told there must be a problem with our installation. They don't take any responsibility if the rangehood was not installed by their recommended installer. Then, we required their recommended installer to check it and he said there was nothing wrong for installation. This motor was extremely noisy and loud. The only thing he can do is to relocate the motor 2 to 3 meters higher and he quoted us $1600 for this a couple hours job. However, our neighbour are refused as the rangehood still face to their bedroom. Harvey Norman and Schweigen all refused to do anything and very very bad service. We have stopped using this rangehood for two months now and tried to find a solution. Our neighbour has instructed their solicitor to take this matter to Court seeking legal remedy and damages against us. It was a nightmare to choose this rangehood. Re: Schweigen rangehood 2Mar 28, 2013 2:36 pm I have no opinion on Schweigen however: 1. Your neighbours will not take you to court over a rangehood. 2. They don't have "damage", you will not have "damages" awarded against you. I'd sleep easy on those points, however I'd be screaming at Harvey Norman/Installer/Schweigen until something was done about a replacement for you. Re: Schweigen rangehood 3Apr 01, 2013 3:16 am I have no opinion on Schweigen as well. However your experience doesn't make much sense to me. 1) Schweigen does carry a 10 years warranty on their motors. If your motor is that noisy, it can be easily proof to be faulty. 2) If left sit around for 6 months before installation, is there any chance that it was damaged before installation? 3) Strange about local council requirements for rangehood. This I really never heard of it and if the rangehood does not meet Australian Standard, how can that be available in the market for such long time? How much was the fine? Please inform us and the council you are at. It will give others more information to avoid this kind of issue as well in future. Re: Schweigen rangehood 4Apr 04, 2013 5:57 pm Snowing, thanks for your reply. 1) Schweigen refused for any service because the rangehood wasn't been installed by their recommended installer and my complaint is not against their product, it was my neighbours complaint against the noise emanating from the motor which was installed to close to their outdoor area. However, the council came and checked and they believed the noise of this motor is in an unaccepted lever and doesn't suit our council's requirement. 2. We spent about $36K for all our appliances and all kept in very a safe place. The package are all in a very good condition when we installed them. 3. I won't believe Swcheigen rangehood doesn't meet Australia Standard, however, this is from the letter of our neighbour's solisitor and they was told by our concil. I am still waiting this to be approve by swcheigen appliances. 3. I have informed council that we will remove this rangehood in next 7 days and I think they will consider to no any fine apply to us. However, we still have to pay $465 management fee. Swcheigen isn't a cheap brand but they are not suit for every home. It's better to check with the local council and all neighbours first then make decision. the noise was from the motor not the faulty of the rangehood. Re: Schweigen rangehood 5May 13, 2013 10:13 am I suspect it might be noise requirements, which does exist, rather than AS on the range hood. There is also the question of distance from boundary. Ours is a long way off, and it does put out some noise, being external and high suction, but no more than say a Quasair externally. It also faces my neighbours wall with no windows at that level (planned that way). |
