Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Feb 05, 2013 5:50 pm Hi, Long time reader - first time making a thread! I am in the process of building a new place and am having a minor issue with the dishwasher integration. I am getting a fully integrated model however the cabinetmaker is telling me it needs to have a handle on the front. The remainder of the kitchen is shadowline, handle-less and 7 meters long so I think it would look rather strange to have a handle on one cupboard. They have said that should the shadowline be at the same height as the others, you would see the top part of the unfinished dishwasher panel and if it was extended higher (so the back of the shadowline was at the height of the top of the dishwasher, it wouldn't line up with the remainder of the cupboards. The only solution I can think of is to get a strip of the C shaped handle (sorry - I don't know how to explain this any better or what it is called, but basically means the door is shorter and this goes on top to open the door with). Have you guys got any other ideas? thanks very much Travis Re: Fully integrated dishwasher - without a handle 2Feb 08, 2013 12:09 pm I don't have an answer for your Travis ... But I will be watching this thread, as we will have the same issue. If you find a solution outside this forum, would you mind sharing it. Thanks Re: Fully integrated dishwasher - without a handle 3Feb 09, 2013 1:45 pm We are in the process of renovating our kitchen and one of the things I absolutely wanted to include was an integrated dishwasher. We have a Fisher and Paykel dish drawer and I wondered how that would work given we are having a handle-less kitchen. The kitchen designer told us that it is no problem, we are having a shark nose (I think that's what it's called) edge at the top of the drawer which allows you to slide your fingers in and pull out the drawer. I was not convinced that this would actually work given the weight of the dishdrawer but today I saw it in the showroom and gave it a try, it was totally fine so it definitely can be done! 2fk Re: Fully integrated dishwasher - without a handle 4Feb 10, 2013 10:09 am Thanks for the replies guys. It turns out my issue was due to the height of the dishwasher I had chosen. I wanted a tall tank model (so has 2 levels of shelving and a cutlery tray on the top) which resulted in it being too high for the remainder of the cabinetry. I could have either run a 3 cm fixed panel around the entire kitchen so the shadowline (or sharknose) would line up but that would have made my benchtop 970mm high.. too high for the main user of the kitchen! So the other options were to either revert to the smaller model fully integrated dishwasher, or keep the same one but switch to the semi integrated model. I ended up going with this as it gave us the size we want with 95% of the look. Agape- as long as you have a normal size fully integrated.. You'll be fine! Thanks for the help-Travis Re: Fully integrated dishwasher - without a handle 6Feb 12, 2013 11:20 am Hi Lewster, Sorry, I am unsure of the heights of the kicks and cupboards. The benchtop is 40mm thick though so if I was going to have the fully integrated dishwasher with shadowline (and would require a fixed panel of about 4cm on top the whole way around the kitchen so it would line up) I would have been at 970mm. Going back to the same model semi-integrated saves me the 4cm and have a total height of 930mm. The FI model was a Smeg DWAFI152T: http://www.smeg.com.au/product/dwafi152t/ The semi-integrated model I have gone with is the DWAI152XT: http://www.smeg.com.au/product/dwai152xt/ Hope this helps. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6352 Get some long brass machine screws and bolt right through the gate and put brass acorn nuts and washers on the other side.
