Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jan 03, 2013 7:32 pm This is my first post so sorry for the lack of detail/technical detail! I'm learning!!! We are renovating our kitchen and have been told that because of the way the windows and kitchen design is, we have a bench height of 935mm which is not standard. What I am now wondering is if I will have issues with a freestanding oven and finding one that will match up? I guess there would be issues with uneven bench and oven heights? I was thinking of a freestanding oven cooktop (we have a gas bench cooktop and wall oven at the moment). Is this going to limit my choice in ovens significantly? I've just started researching ovens this afternoon and reading posts from this forum so I have not yet researched exhaustively! Was hoping on some help from experts before we hit the shops. Thanks Re: Non standard bench height and new ovens? 2Jan 03, 2013 8:33 pm Your bench tops are only slightly under standard Bench top height, by approx 10mm. You won't have any problems with any oven you buy. Freestanding ovens have adjustable feet, so can be raised and lowered to the required height. Inbuilt oven will also be fine. As the usually have fixed laminate panels above and under the oven itself, which also can be adjusted to suit. Next will be the kitchen design plans. Re: Non standard bench height and new ovens? 6Jan 27, 2013 6:38 am Industry standard is 900mm but having worked with a custom builder and now designing custom home for private clients, I draw my cabinets at 910mm. This is mainly to cater for the selection of European freestanding stoves that are popular and tend to be a fraction higher....Clients think they can select them right up to when they move in but the cabinets have to be made before lock up stage in reality. The adjustable legs solves some issues but changing stone thickness also throws a spanner in the works, along with flat pack kitchen makers who don't understand the word bespoke or don't own a bench plane or are just plain lazy.... The 943 measurement I would suggest comes from your cabinetmakers process or brick height to have the window at bench height (popular at the moment) I've done benches as low as 800mm for one height challenged couple and as high as 950 for a German guy close to 7ft tall!!! Made sure his job was right. Re: Non standard bench height and new ovens? 7Jan 27, 2013 11:15 am thanks for that. I am only short - 142cm, and my current kitchen is only 865 and I quite like that. But building a brand new klitchen in a new house, that down the track will need to be sold makes me think that I need to have the standard of 900mm. I can work with that, and it will be easier to sell.... From a pure legal perspective, if you've signed the variation, it is a very high bar to have it set aside. No-one can give you legal advice on a forum, but you would need… 3 5477 Thanks. There are plenty of builders around my suburb. I'll make sure to do some door-to-door knocking, or note their building details on the temp fence. 4 4746 Building Standards; Getting It Right! Long story short, a toilet room is going to back onto our main bedroom and I want to make it close to soundproof. Im going to build two frames (pretty much a room within a… 0 10213 |
