Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jul 22, 2012 1:13 pm We have an undermount Smeg rangehood that was installed in an overhead melamine cupboard that is in line with the other overhead cupboards. The bottom of the rangehood is 600mm above the benchtops, but 550mm above the trivetts on the gas cooktop. The manual for the rangehood says it must be a minimum of 650mm from the top of the cooktop surface. With 2-3 burners running & the fan going it doesn't seems to get that hot, only warm around the rangehood or the cupboard it sits in. Is there a building regulation that says that the 650mm minimum distance must be adhered to otherwise your building insurance will be invalid? Or will there be any other issues if we leave it at the current height? Re: Rangehood distance from cooktop 2Jul 22, 2012 10:07 pm I think it's regulated, but cannot confirm. We recently had ours installed and it had to be installed higher such that it no longer lines up with out overhead cupboards to ensure the 650mm clearance above the trivets as the electrician didn't allow it to be installed otherwise.. Re: Rangehood distance from cooktop 3Dec 23, 2012 11:37 pm It sounds too low to me. Take a look at these standard kitchen dimensions as well as Australian kitchen standards (in particular AS4386.2 Domestic Kitchen Assemblies – Installation) to get an understanding. These are minimum standards but you must install as per the manufacturers specifications. You will have to get it altered, simple as that unfortunately. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- Re: Rangehood distance from cooktop 5Jan 01, 2013 4:09 pm I've always wondered if there is a limit to how high you can get it mounted so you don't hit your head (never ending) I'm assuming not, you'd just need enough suction through it to pull all the vapour out.
