Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Dec 18, 2011 8:31 am What are the advantages/disadvantages to having a built under vs freestanding dishwasher? What do you think is the better option?? We had planned to get Bosch free standing but measuring our space it's only 603mm and the freestanding is 600mm so might not fit but the built under is a little narrower so now considering going this way...is this a more costly installation? Do we need to do anything different to the cabinetry besides fixing the dishwasher to it?? Re: Dishwasher - built under or free standing 4Dec 19, 2011 6:53 am Well, my Miele certainly isn't, and neither was the Smeg before that. The Smeg was a normal built under, whereas the Miele is a semi-integrated (add you own door trim and kickboard). Dishwasher - built under or free standing 6Dec 24, 2011 10:10 pm In our old house we had a Bosch that we bought to fit the spot, not fixed just slide in and out but it was too tall so we took the removable top off so it would fit. In our rental the dishwasher is not fixed and in the house we are building its not fixed either. I would go with the built under spot as I think when they are freestanding they look like an afterthought.
