If you do put it away, where do you keep it? Do you have a handy spot/cupboard right near where you actually use it or do you have to store it in pantry or somewhere slightly inconvenient? I like the idea of not having it 'on display' but the hassle of getting it out and putting it away each day really puts me off. (And not necessarily having adequate storage for it kind of limits my options) - but just wondering what most people do with their toaster. Re: Where's your toaster? 3Aug 04, 2011 9:52 pm going to have ours on a shelf that can be concealed, along with the kettle food processor etc. Also we are having a drawer directly beneath this for all the drinks stuff... coffee tea mugs etc. I think a big mistake people make planning their kitchens is having heaps of bench space.... then cluttering it up with stuff. Hopefully ours will take shape in the coming weeks so I can post some pics. Re: Where's your toaster? 4Aug 04, 2011 9:54 pm Ideally ours would be in an appliance cupboard, with the kettle and we'd just open the door to use and then 'hide' it again when closing the door ... but of course I ran out of space and couldn't fit an appliance cupboard in this kitchen, so it will go into the cupboard or pantry (depends on space when we get into the house) each day. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Where's your toaster? 5Aug 04, 2011 11:03 pm Our unsightly toaster lives right next to the cooktop :/ Originally, it was supposed to live in the cupboard (hence buying a cheap daggy white one), it didnt happen. It was always left out. If we werent having an appliance cupboard, I would be "upgrading" the toaster Re: Where's your toaster? 6Aug 05, 2011 7:07 am Eager Ours only gets used occasionally so it normally lives in the cupboard directly beneath the part of kitchen bench that it gets used on. that was how we lived, but we used it more than occassionaly..drove me nuts so this kitchen was designed around the toaster and it is in the walk in pantry with a bench and shelves under it for vegemite etc and a power point permanently in its plug! LOVE IT Re: Where's your toaster? 8Aug 05, 2011 8:33 am Its in a storage locker atm It will most likely live in a pot drawer on the same side of kitchen as all the power points. Alternatively it will be in our pantry. Re: Where's your toaster? 9Aug 05, 2011 8:46 am Ours is on the benchtop. I bought a nice looking Breville Platinum (along witha matching kettle) so it lives on the benchtop since it looks nice. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Where's your toaster? 10Aug 05, 2011 8:53 am Hidden away in a cupboard. We only use ours every 2-3 day so wasn't worth using up space in the walk in pantry. Although this may change once I offload my Nespresso coffee machine that I no longer use. Some things are worth waiting for. We use ours maybe twice a week and put it away after each use. Re: Where's your toaster? 12Aug 05, 2011 3:59 pm We used to have ours out on the bench but in the rental there's no room so it lives in the cupboard directly under where it is used. It's quite nice not to have it hanging around all the time For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Where's your toaster? 13Aug 05, 2011 4:19 pm Our toaster has it's own bench, you can see it when you walk into the kitchen, but we have a patio area next to that area, so the wall sticks out, so it's concealed from the dining and family areas. Otherwise we would put it in the pantry, but being a clean freak, I think of all of the crumbs getting transported back to the bench, can't imagine my hubbi taking the plate to the toaster, he would take the toast in his hands back to the bench . LOVE IT Me too! This is the second house we have built with the pantry set up with power points for the microwave & toaster. I like homes to look lived in and homey and the toaster is kinda part of that. It never sits right with me when I go to someones house and they have 3 kids and there is not one toy or book around. Seems kinda odd. I feel waaaay more at home in a 'lived in' house. That said in the new house we have a bench in my pantry so the toaster will stay on the bench in the pantry where we have put a plug for it. In the rental property we are in right now there is literally no bench space to put the toaster so it lives on a tray (because of the crumbs) and gets moved from bench (when in use) to stove top (when stove is not in use!) or sometimes the bottom of my pantry, which is a really inconvenient spot because it sits on stop of other things. It's only there if I need to use the bench and oven at the same time. I don't even have a cupboard that it fits in. I'm sick of this silly kitchen, its so not user friendly. Can't wait to get in my new one. Re: Where's your toaster? 16Aug 05, 2011 8:27 pm cheerupcharlie . So good not to have have to pull them out all the time, but they are still completely handy, kitchen stays uncluttered. All the toast type paraphernalia is in the pantry anyway.... it also means DS can get snacks while I'm in the kitchen cooking and he isn't in my way. The only appliance permanently out in the kitchen is the kettle, but that will be changed for a stove top one.... when I find the perfect one! The 2 year search continues. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Where's your toaster? 20Aug 08, 2011 8:02 pm My toaster and kettle etc all get put away in the pantry and brought out every day when I use them - the way I see it is that I use a hairdryer each day but I don't leave it sitting out on the bench, so I don't do it with kitchen appliances either Having said that, if I was designing a new home I would do as others above have said, and either add an appliance cupboard or put powerpoints in the pantry, something that is convenient but also hidden away.
