Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jul 10, 2011 10:03 pm trying to pick out the appliances is so tricky! we have Miele in our current house and can't say I'm ecstatic - this was 5 years ago nearly and at the time there wasn't as much choice for certain technology (induction cooktop, island rangehood, pyrolitic oven) so we decided to go with it including the dishwasher was almost $15K so this time we are hoping it to be a little cheaper... still like to have similar technology. i think with small children induction is a must as it's the safest definitely need pyrolitic oven, don't necessarily need all the cooking programs as I have never used them, oh and cool touch door is also a must rangehood will be either pull-out or undermount, dishwasher safe filters and has to be easy to clean, while the island and canopy ones are stylish they are such a pain to clean! we also live in Darwin so getting some of the fancier brands - I have seen Schweigen, Whispair and Qasair mentioned quite a bit, however I think only Qasair is stocked here by Harvey Norman. Whispair said I could get one shipped. dishwasher I am very undecided, we currently have a fully integrated one which has the cutlery shelf at the top (excellent idea) but am thinking a dish drawer or 2 might be the way to go as we tend to not always have a full load of dishes every day, i also saw Bosch do a dish drawer type dishwasher - thoughts? i saw someone's pic where they had a dish drawer either side of the sink and hopefully be able to do something similar in ours brands I've been looking at are F&P, Bosch & Blanco and today Electrolux caught my eye with it's fancy all glass oven (no stainless to clean), although it's reputation leaves me wondering we are going for an overall easy to clean design preferably no knobs. thanks Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 2Jul 11, 2011 9:16 am Bosch oven, Schweigen rangehood and I can't help with induction. Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 3Jul 11, 2011 11:28 am ivory_kitten ..................... brands I've been looking at are F&P, Bosch & Blanco and today Electrolux caught my eye with it's fancy all glass oven (no stainless to clean), although it's reputation leaves me wondering I believe after living for 5 years with Miele appliances you probably won't be very happy with Fisher and Paykel. Personally I would also avoid Blanco and Electrolux (and heaps of others like westinghouse, omega, smeg, franke etc.) If you are after quality - have a look at Miele, Bosch, Asko. Good luck Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 4Jul 11, 2011 11:48 am electrolux aren't that bad. You need to consider what you get for your money. If fact there induction cook tops are one of the best. (They are actually made by someone else in Germany though). Reason being is that they have boost on all four burners, and are more flexible in how they work. There oven is not to bad either. But It only cost $2K for a one and a half ovens with triple glazed door and telescopic runner. I find the rangehood is good as well. Both build quality and performance. Though I would still think Miele are a more refined product. However they cost a lot more. Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 5Jul 12, 2011 11:31 am in 5yrs though we have had a faulty oxygen sensor in our oven and something wrong with the dishwasher (twice) so can't say that the quality was worth it... 90% decided on a fully integrated Bosch dishwasher - I'm a sucker for the fully integrated ones, especially with little kids, every time we go to MIL house the always end up starting her dishwasher multiple times! Just found out we can get Schweigen here through Harvey Norman so am finding out a cost for that Just leaves the oven and the cooktop to decide upon - does anyone know the difference in the Bosch range between the EcoClean and Pyrolytic clean? i like the look of the Electrolux though since it has no circles or stoneage looking LED display. http://www.electrolux.com.au/Products/C ... /EHD68210P or the Blanco one http://www.blanco-australia.com/Product ... =107&id=17 or the Bosch one http://www.boschappliances.com.au/appli ... rce=browse Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 7Jul 12, 2011 11:51 am We have recently put in a Schweigen undermount range-hood. I never thought I could get excited about a range-hood, it's amazing. The motor is outside, so it's silent inside. Best thing ever. Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 8Jul 12, 2011 12:07 pm Have a look at AEG they actually make the electrolux stuff in germany. Bosch make a good dishwasher but i hear the latest run of Miele dishwashers are pretty special. Some models have an auto open function that releases the door a little to let the steam escape, very simple idea but means everything is actually dry when its done. Bosch have a fan i understand to assist drying .... but that must use a little more power. I still havnt made up my mind on everything but I have resisted the usual trend of going with the same brand for everything. Most people seem to either like or hate most brands, and have various tales to tell re reliability. I have purchased our rangehood only, a Miele (da 489-4) a display stock sale, and am thinking of the AEG 90cm oven. Havnt settled on a cooktop but i hear good things about Ilve, we dont have young children anymore so induction isnt a must. decisions decisions huh Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 9Jul 12, 2011 1:26 pm oh that's me I can't help but lean towards matching!!!! I have let go on the Schweigen rangehood because you won't really see it but there's a small part of me that really wants everything else to match, although I suppose you won't really see the dishwasher so it won't matter either, then it's just the cooktop and oven omg i can't believe i'm going to have mismatched appliances!! has anyone seen the Siemens ovens? there is some link there with Bosch right? Re: kitchen appliances - what do you like/dislike? 10Jul 13, 2011 8:57 am Seimens own Bosch (and Neff). The Seimens brand is the premium brand, Bosch is the budget brand. We have Seimens oven, microwave and cooktop. All very good stuff, we were choosing between Seimens and Miele and it was the standard 5 year warranty on Seimens that won us over and no regrets on that but the microwave, whilst happy with it, was horrendously expensive. Only thing with Seimens is there are not many stockists and very limited discounts available. In fact in Melbourne I think it is only carried by E&S Trading. No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11584 No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6632 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 39704 |
