Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jun 10, 2011 5:13 pm Hi guys, I am pretty clear about the dishwasher I am going to get (looking at a Bosch), as many reviews support that brand and it's reliability. However, I am unsure about the oven and stove. We currently have an oldddddd Chef elevated oven and stove with coils. It is fairly large inside the oven and I would love to keep to as large inside as I can. I wanted to get an inbench oven with a ceramic stove on top (not as fussed about the induction cooktops). We don't have gas. I was considering the Westinghouse range, but not sure of the reliability of them. I want to feel as sure about my choice of oven/stove as I am about the dishwasher. There just seem to be so many options with the oven and stove brands. Is Bosch just as good with their oven/stove options? I have heard that Westinghouse is middle of the range so to speak. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Louise Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 2Jun 10, 2011 6:29 pm Bosch ovens are great and consistently rate high in choice magazine. Bought one for the mother in law a year ago when i redid her kitchen and she has been very happy. my house blog: http://sugarloafdrivebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 3Jun 15, 2011 9:25 am We have the Bosch oven too..the pyrolytic one (not sure of the model number now) but got it about a year ago. Love it! At the moment we have a Westinghouse ceramic hot plate. Had that 3 or 4 years or so and don't have any complaints. It's a touch one, no knobs, so it's easy to clean. Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 4Jun 15, 2011 11:47 am Oh cool, thanks guys! Yeah, considering strongly a bosch oven......... Not sure of the pyrolytic ones though miss_ticky2.......am worried about them heating up way too much and my cabinets not coping with the heat........although I could be completely way off as to how they work with the heat.... I know exactly what you mean...I had mine for several months and it badly needed cleaning but I kept putting it off for that exact same reason. Ours is installed into old cabinets (probably about 25 years old) and I was frightened I'd burn the house down, although obviously the ovens are made so they can go snugly into cabinets..old or new. I gritted my teeth one day, made sure hubby was at home and then turned my oven on to the cleaning settings. It was brilliant! And very little heat on the sides of the oven or cabinets, that I could feel. I kept running and feeling them every 5 minutes...lol. I'll feel much happier next time I use the cleaning funtion. Janice Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 6Jun 19, 2011 3:08 pm Well miss_ticky2!! You convinced me on the pyro lol Went to Harvey Norman today to buy all of our appliances, and the salesman offered me a pyro one for a great deal. They asked if I wanted the telescopic rails, which I did.....question is whether to get the 2 fold one or the 3 fold one..... Do you have them at all? I got the 2 with mine but wish now I'd spent extra and got the 3. They threw in the 2, I think, and I didn't use them for ages either...I must be slow at trying new things...lol. But, once I tried them I love them I'd go for the 3 if I were you. I'm thinking I might buy them myself at some stage down the track. Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 8Jun 20, 2011 10:37 am Yep, I am considering the 3 one as well....although hubby was asking me whether it would limit the height of things I could put on the lower shelves on the rails. Do you HAVE to use the middle one all of the time? Not sure how it works, can't picture it lol I have an old old oven at the moment so no real comparison to work it out. Have looked online and not sure if the 3 fold will even fit??? Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 9Jun 20, 2011 11:15 am hmmm...you had me thinking on that one. I had to drag out my original rails that came with the oven...lol. The rails I have with the 2 telescopic tracks have the same number of rails and are spaced pretty much the same as the original rails. The only difference is that 2 of mine are telescopic I imagine the 3 one would be the same setup except one more of the fixed rails would be replaced with the telescopic rails. I know there was a 3 rail available for my oven when I got it last year, so if it's for your oven, you shouldn't have any problems fitting it. And no, I haven't been limited any more by having the telescopic rails than what I would have been with the original all fixed rails. I've had to remove a shelf sometimes (or move it up) perhaps for a roast, but you'd have to do that with the fixed rails anyway. And no, you can use whatever shelves you want, whether it be the fixed ones or the ones that telescope. You treat it just like normal rails and shelves and cook where you want...or should, depending on what you're cooking. There's no difference except you have the convenience of 2 (or 3) of them being able to slide easily towards you if you want to check your roast etc Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 10Jun 20, 2011 3:26 pm Initially we hadn't thought much about the oven as our cooking in our previous house involved most of the time the gas stove. There were a gas oven in the house but it was an old model and we felt a bit nervous using it. We ended up buying a small electric oven. While browsing the Internet during the construction of our new house we found out that an oven would actually be a key appliance in our kitchen and would allow us to cook a large variety of dishes. After extensive research online and reading tests in Choice magazines we selected a Bosch wall oven, HBA43B450A, (Multifunction 63L Wall Oven, Triple glazed, child lock). Same brand as our dishwasher. Now what I can say is we can't live without this oven Although we cook a lot using the gas cooktop the oven is in use every weekend and two to three days during weekdays. Unlike other ovens we had in the past this one doesn't dry food. Roasted pork, lamb and chicken of all sorts keep moisture and are flavoursome. We also cook cakes, pizzas, french fries in it and find the food very tasty. We have little kids and the door of this oven doesn't become hot during cooking which is great to prevent getting burned. Would definitely recommend this one. “It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end” http://www.buildinganewhome.com.au Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 11Jun 20, 2011 10:24 pm miss_ticky2 - thanks so much!!! You convinced me to go with the 3 fold! I am so looking forward to it! Such a step up from the 'fire hazard' that we have right now!!! Jervisbay, that is so good to hear! We have gone with the HBA63B450A model, which is basically identical to the one that you have, but is a pyro instead. I was originally intending on getting the one you have, but then the sales guy gave me an awesome deal for the pyro version. Am really looking forward to it! Re: Recommendations for an oven and stove 12Jun 20, 2011 10:39 pm Bosch. Used their appliances when I renovated my kitchen a few yrs ago. Funnily enough the only thing I miss from my old house lol Hi Chippy, no there isn't, gave it a really good look through and literally opened everything and checked all edges as well.
