We have our kitchen upstairs so from range to top of roof wouldn't be more that 1.5 max I would say. Will this mean there is little benefit on getting an external motor Rangehood, or have I misunderstood? There are a lot of benefits of getting External motors - Yet you will need to run the motor minimum 3-4 metres away from the unit for it to be near silent - The main reason is not the noise of the motor yet the echo/wind noise you will get through the ducting, this is due to being so close & so powerful. If you are not too fussed by a lil more noise then when it would 3-4m away then you would still benefit as the External motor gives you a constant draw which goes all the way from the unit to outside - Other units suck in and then blow out. Feature-wise not as good, as all manual controls (no run on timer such as for the Schweigen), but from my SIL and cousin (both who have it vent directly out the back, as both have the stove against an external wall) who both have the Quasair, seems reliable. Only reason we went with Schweigen is our stove is on an island, and needed to be ducted at an angle as directly above we have an array of solar panels. Re: HELP: Schweigen vs Bosch range hood ? 11Nov 08, 2012 2:03 pm just looking at this thread - I am a bit confused about the distance to the external vent comments? My kitchen is going to be 5.3m long and the rangehood in the middle - would the schweigen rangehood work in that space? thanks Re: HELP: Schweigen vs Bosch range hood ? 13Nov 11, 2012 8:55 pm hmmmm got no idea about how they would fit it I am installing a new Bosch SMU4HTS01A built under dushwasher.
