Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Mar 14, 2011 1:44 pm OK the story goes like this. I've sort of settled on a schweigen hood, its the professional 1000 cl7171, now an older model. It has 2 big motors mounted in the hood, pulling something like 2200 cubic meters of air, and its quiet, the motors rotate at lower speed using bigger fan blades. Its not silent, but its very quiet given how much air its extracting. You can have a normal conversation without talking over it if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm thinking of something quieter, not because I don't want to know its there but because I roast coffee and need to hear what's happening during the roast. I also roast at night when the 3 kids are asleep thus the interest in the 'silent' schweigen with the external mounted motor. Coffee roasting produces lots of aroma, and sometimes lots of smoke. So I thought the schweigen professional would be OK as it has LOTS of extraction, but its not 'silent' since the motors are mounted inside the hood, so know I'm having second thoughts. So now I'm thinking of the other model schweigen's with the external mounted motor and I'm trying to settle on a motor. Not sure if I should go with the 1600 ISOdrive motor (1600 cubic meters) or stick to the single motor 650 cubic meters. Its quite a jump, approx $600 to pick the 1600 ISOdrive unit. So how much extraction do I need? I'm not having any luck searching on the internet. 650 cubic meters seems sufficient, not sure I can justify paying $600 more for an an extra 1000 cubic meters of extraction that 'm not sure I'll need. Plus whatever the builder will jab me for installing a fancy hood. Already paying extra $200 approx to have a standard hood vented externally. Q1. So anyone know about how much extraction is needed? I know you cant have too much extraction, but everything comes at a cost and I'm trying to justify the expense. Q2. If you own a schweigen hood, which motor did you choose and how did you decide? Thanks in advance Horaldo. Re: Schweigen rangehood advice - which motor to choose? 3Mar 16, 2011 7:21 am Well I've got the Professional 1000 cl7171 (2 of them actually). And yes they do make a bit of noise when on highest setting. My way of thinking, the more extraction the better! You can always turn it down if you don't need it. However, if you buy the small 650 m3 and find that it is not sifficient, you can't turn it up anymore. Oh BTW, the 'slient' ISO drive motor will only be 'slient' in the kitchen area... if the motor is installed in the roof cavity over a bedroom, i'm sure you'll be able to hear it in the bedroom.
