I need to replace my existing AEG under cupboard rangehood. I would like to buy a good quality one that has an external motor and is very efficient. My concern is that it needs to be ducted directly out -so I have less than one metre distance approx 550mm. Will this be a problem? Will it be too noisy? Will it affect the performance? Thanks Re: Rangehood 46Aug 04, 2011 12:38 pm You say that Schweigen & Whispair yes they are recommended to be installed around 3-4metres away, I have less than 600mm. Will this be a problem? Re: Rangehood 47Aug 04, 2011 6:53 pm Amazing Grace Of course if the motor is closer then 3-4 metres you will get increased noise - Yet still less then majority of other hoods. You can go down in power to a Whispair 765m3 motor or Schweigen 650m3 depends if you want high extract or no noise or both Other way is getting a powerful motor yet using it on 1 or 2 speed then having a little more noise on the rare occasion you put it up higher. Speed will vary noise levels - Performance wont be effected at all - You will get great extraction just more noise due to how close it is. Are you in a single storey or double story? One solution I had come up with for a friend in single storey was to run the ducting sideways through the ceiling for a few meters then go up. You don't need to have 4-6m vertical rise, just 4-6m total length. See the example below Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It rises off the range through ceiling then goes horizontally over the linen/hall/bathroom, changes direction to cross WC, into laundry then goes vertically out through roof over laundry This would give around 6m of total length Re: Rangehood 49Aug 18, 2011 9:39 am Hi folks, I really had no idea there was so much to know about rangehoods prior to finding this thread. I'd simply been approaching the choosing of one from an airflow perspective since our current ceiling fan is amazingly ineffective (and potentially dangerous given it only exits into the ceiling cavity). With that in mind, we've already chosen and purchased an Electrolux model (ERCM9010AS) and given it hasn't come up as a mentioned brand in this thread at all, I'm wondering if we've made a poor choice in brand? Has anyone got an opinion in their quality, etc? Cheers, Lain Re: Rangehood 50Jun 04, 2015 7:48 am I bought a Sweigen and got it home and realised the quality of the canopy was TERRIBLE. I went back to Harvey Norman and they then advised me it was CHINESE made . The motor was German but the hood was chinese. I then bought a Whispair, it was about the same money but the quality was 10x better and had the baffle filters. My advice to anyone is go the Whispair the warrenty is also better at 3 years instead of 2. Also the motor comes with 10 year warranty and the filters come with lifetime warranty on all silent rangehoods. The majority of the canopies are also made in Europe with the exception of a few which are made in China. For more info please visit http://www.schweigen.com.au Thanks. Re: Rangehood 52Jul 14, 2015 12:27 pm We have a Blanco Rangehood in our kitchen and a Schweigen in our alfresco. The motors on the Schweigen are externaly mounted so the noise around it is markedly less than the Blanco. I've heard of people having problems with neighbours with the Schweigens but our neighbours reckon it makes no more noise than their and our air cons. The Schweigen has the baffled filters which are much easier to keep clean than the mesh filters on the Blanco. Only issue we have is that although Schweigen used to state you can put the filters in the dishwasher it's now been clarified to state only on low temperature/short duration washes. Long duration washes with the latest in dishwasher tablets corrodes the mechanism in the clip that keep the filter in place. We brought this issue up with Schweigen and they replaced all our filters under warranty without any drama whatsoever. We wash ours by hand now - easy to do. Schweigen canopy quality is much better than the Blanco. |
