Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jan 17, 2011 10:07 am We know we don't want a slide out so thats gone. It is between a normal wall mounted one or an undermounted one. Our kitchen is two parallel benches (don't know a technical name sorry) So I thought the under mount would look shmick having clean cupboards running along the top but have since been advised that they can be a pain because it only covers the back burners really so all the smoke etc from the front goes over the front of the cupboards or you need to have the rangehood working over time. Thoughts? ta Re: Help me with a rangehood 2Jan 17, 2011 11:35 am Mrs P I think the technical term you are looking for is a galley kitchen I'm a bit confused cos it seems you have decided not to go with a slide out or undermount range hood (which IMHO are the same thing) so what's your question? Are you just wanting pics of the type of range hoods people have? I agree that the slide out rangehoods don't seem to be as effective as the other ones. If it helps my parents have a galley kitchen and they simply have a curved glass and stainless steel rangehood which is located between 2 sets of overhead cupboards. Re: Help me with a rangehood 3Jan 17, 2011 3:52 pm Hi Mrs P, I've just been talking to my joiner about rangehoods and he steered me away from a concealed undercupboard one in favour of a slideout. He said they're deeper than slideouts so the cabinet winds up being over 40cm deep (compared with standard 30cm). He said the cabinets wind up looking very boxy and need to be mounted higher than normal - which can mess with the look of the kitchen if you have other wall cupboards at a different height. Hope this helps. Pippi Re: Help me with a rangehood 4Jan 17, 2011 8:41 pm thanks for that Pippi Grom I don't want a slide out but wanted the concealed under mounted one. Slide out one does just that.. slide out so there covers more width of the bench opposed to a concealed under mount (or so I've been led to believe) Re: Help me with a rangehood 5Jan 17, 2011 10:12 pm Be aware that the front section of a slide out does not really give you any suction; the same can also happen with some canopies, in that the suction is not even over the whole surface. At the end of the day, it depends on what you cook. Re: Help me with a rangehood 6Jan 18, 2011 12:17 am I and my wife we both love cooking. We love to be in kitchen. I am aslo a chef by profession. We both are tall and the problem we both faced all the time with a canopy and/or a slide out range hood was, our head would hit it all the time. Especially if you wanna check the texture of food on the gas range behind. We looked around and saw this range hood (pic attached below) it is just perfect for both of us. As per some of the salesmen, this range hoods are very efficient. Re: Help me with a rangehood 10Jan 27, 2011 9:58 am ourhome Does anyone have their rangehood vented externally to the atmosphere? how does it go out? Your choices now are to the atmosphere or recirculated. It can't be vented to the roof space anymore by law. Most rangehoods that are set up for atmosphere come with a couple of meters of ducting. From there you'll have to but a kit to go through the roof tiles or sheets. If you get recirculated it must be fitted with approved charcoal lined filters. They are normally washable in a dishwasher these days. 2 4463 That drawingโs in the old units.
