Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jan 15, 2011 3:41 pm I'm interested to hear what appliances you ended up choosing for your kitchen, paricularly the oven, cooktop and rangehood. I'd love to hear the pros and cons and why you chose that appliance. It seems I find something I like then do an internet search and I end up finding something negative about that certain product. Thanks for your feedback. Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 2Jan 15, 2011 3:46 pm We have a Miele cooktop and rangehood, and an AEG oven. Because they're made in Germany and are reliable, although expensive. We had an AEG which was 14 years old and still going strong Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 3Jan 16, 2011 11:01 am We got Siemens oven, microwave and cooktop. Choice was between Siemens and Miele but we went with Siemens because they gave a 5 year warranty and the oven capacity in 60cm was slightly bigger. No complaints, would highly recommend as an option. Rangehood we went with Qasair because every retailer we went to, even ones that did not sell Qasair said it was the best and I wanted the best rangehood we could buy because I think most do not work. It has turned out a good purchase, very effective and very quiet but watch out for the additional ducting expenses that you may not be told about when you purchase the unit. Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 4Jan 18, 2011 11:04 am Bosch oven, cooktop and dishwasher, with a Schweigen rangehood here. Bosch, Siemens, Neff and Gaggenau are all owned by the same company. Basically Bosch and Siemens models are identical casings with the Siemens having nicer/hardier/more robust switches/fittings. Siemens also offer a 5yr warranty where as Bosch only 2yr std. Neff has 4yr warranty with differently styled, but ultimately the same internals. Bosch also scored 1st or 2nd in a recent choice test for reliability. I think they had the least reported failures of ovens in the range tested.*** ***this is from memory i could be very wrong. I'm trying to find the test results. Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 6Jan 22, 2011 1:54 pm I've only seen it in a showroom. The showroom did actually have it connected fully but only vented to the roof of the factory it was in. It made around 20-30% of the noise of a Bosch/Miele/other premium brand rangehood and less than 10% of the noise our 1yr old Lofra made. AND IT WASN'T EVEN FULLY DUCTED IN!!!!!!!!!!!!! This sold me on the spot. I had already told the GLW that we were getting one, but when she got a chance to see it for herself she rang me immediately and agreed. If it had have been fully ducted to the roof of the factory in stead of just into the mezzanine it would have been even quieter. Like I said though some premium brands versions do make less noise than cheaper ones, but the cost of the Schweigen we picked was less than a Miele and more efficient and 1/3rd the noise. I'm sure the Quasair and Whispair are just as quiet, but I loved the Scwheigen profiles/styles best Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 7Jan 22, 2011 2:04 pm Schweigen rangehood Miele oven Teka induction stove - the bean shaped one. It is soooo easy to clean, we have to love it. Kept our old Maytag dishwasher. When it dies, we'll think about a Miele or Asko dishwasher. We aren't unhappy with the Maytag, it is super quiet, but I don't think they are imported any more. Pfiff Finally making progress again, with a clothesline (yippee) and some much needed little things being attended to over the holidays. 40 C on New Year's eve? We love our a/c! Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 8Jan 22, 2011 5:25 pm We had a choice of a technika 600mm underbench and a 900mm cooktop and rangehood as standard. Or to choose a technika freestanding in an upgrade package with a stone benchtop. Or to upgrade just the underbench oven to a technika 900mm. We ended up instead choosing a 900mm freestanding Omega which was the not a lot of difference in price as the 900mm Technika underbench oven with pot drawer. Our decision was based upon the reviews. We couldn't afford the smeg and with uncertainty about this being our forever property we didn't want to upgrade too much on a couple of things that could always be done later. An Omega freestanding would have a better resale value than a technika, I wouldn't expect to get much for it to be honest but I can see from the reviews the technika probably would not attract any buyers at all. Re: Kitchen appliances you chose 9Jan 22, 2011 5:33 pm I tried looking for alternative ovens etc. We got a 900cm freestanding oven which can easily be replaced. To be honest I have done lots of baking and must say I haven't come across any problems. I really wanted a Smeg but figured at the time we could later get one if it was so important to us. I really like the ovens whereby you can choose your colour, bake, roast etc all at the same time...but for the price tag?!?!? No. It's not original. Circa early to mid 90s would be my guess and maybe even as late as early 2000s 1 6634 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
