Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Dec 29, 2010 4:19 pm Just wondering whether anyone has either the 1. Bosch built in double oven HBM43B550A - http://www.boschappliances.com.au/appli ... rce=browse or 2. Smeg 90cm freestanding cooker C9GMXA - http://www.smegappliances.com.au/Produc ... 9GMXA.aspx The Smeg is the standard fitting from my builder but I'm a bit worried about all the complaints I'm finding for Smeg products. My DH is happy to go with the Smeg, but he just doesn't want to pay extra for any variations. Appreciate your thoughts. Re: Bosch Built In Double Oven vs Smeg 90cm Freestanding Coo 3Dec 31, 2010 7:07 am tjilpi Don't know about Bosch vs Smeg, but I'd have the double oven at close to eye height, oven the 90cm at floor level, any day Thanks for yr reply tjilpi. We currently have an old Chef wall oven with a separate grill underneath. The oven is very small and it has been frustrating at times. This is why the big Smeg appeals to DH. I guess I'm "old school" in that I like the idea of having a separate grill and the Bosch double oven could be used in this way. Re: Bosch Built In Double Oven vs Smeg 90cm Freestanding Coo 4Dec 31, 2010 10:09 am I like that Bosch double-oven. It's what I would love to put in my new house. I don't know about the smeg. Maybe look at some of the old threads about 900 wide ovens? The consensus (I think) was mostly that it wasn't worth it - they tend to heat unevenly (terrible for baking) and be expensive to run. Status: sold our first house, moved in with parents, bought our second in Pakenham, still planning to build in a few years time. Re: Bosch Built In Double Oven vs Smeg 90cm Freestanding Coo 5Jan 11, 2011 11:12 pm Hi, both are great brands and do the same job but consider this.... If you get the Smeg, you will be bending down to use the oven continuously and have to clean behind it regularly like a fridge. If you buy the Bosch, then you must buy a seperate hot plate but the oven is at viewing height. Re: Bosch Built In Double Oven vs Smeg 90cm Freestanding Coo 6Jan 12, 2011 9:34 am Hi We put a 900mm Smeg freestanding cooker looks like the one in your pic but we sold the house a few months ago and I can't be sure. It was the best thing we purchased for our reno. It cooked really evenly, I am not a huge cook but when I do I tend to do it in a big way, party food etc, pastry would brown and crisp perfectly an cupcakes etc would rise perfectly couldn'y ask for better. We also put in a Smeg dishwasher and convection microwave, never had a problem with any of them. Wish my builder used Smeg as standard. Bosch is their standard, hope they are just as good 2 15465 My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven.
