Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Dec 16, 2010 6:42 pm Hello, I'm looking for a new rangehood and could do with some advice. I'm limited to a 600mm retractable one. I've been told Miele is good because they're well made and quiet. However, the base model (3060) is almost $900 and the suction seems really low (only 480 m3/h). I'm told a good level of suction for a family where cooking is done nightly is around 700 m3/h. The next model up (3160) has an extraction rate of up to 760 m3/h but costs $1,200. Would the 3060 be a waste of money if its extraction rate is so much lower than the 3160? Are Miele rangehoods really worth the money? Does anyone have an ILVE rangehood? They have a one for $926 (E75G60SS) with an airflow rate of 850 m3/h. This sounds to me like a better deal than the Miele and is more likely to come at a discount... Any advice on these rangehoods or other recommendations would be much appreciated. Thank you! Re: Rangehood recommendation needed 2Dec 21, 2010 11:48 am There is "quiet" and there is "is that rangehood even on?" Miele, Ilve, some Bosch and other more premium brands will offer some models that are reasonably quiet but they probably won't have the suction power that you are after. They can also be a bit expensive getting up to $2k Quasair, Whispair and Schweigen all have silent models that you will barely hear. They all also retail for over $1500 I see that the Miele 3060 & 3160 are slide out models. All the different types of rangehood have good and bad points. Slide out tend to not be as good as canopies at extraction as canopies use the "hood" to create a slight vacuum. Obviously the advantage of slide outs is you can slide it back in and its out of the way. I've picked a Schweigen 90cm stainless canopy as it performs great, is ultra quiet and has a nice slimline profile. (the whispair and Quasair one were more $$ and weren't as nice to look at IMO) It sells for $2600rrp but you get a much better price than that as soon as you ring up for it. I know of one place that has a Schweigen under mount 60cm for $1149 if you are interested and in Mlbourne. just give me a PM.
