How many of you are aggravated by annoying "features" in your fixed appliances?
Our new place came with Omega kitchen appliances. The salesperson gave the impression these were a flash brand, all super-duper.
In reality they appeared to have been designed with no regard to user-friendliness.
The dishwasher annoyingly switches between draining and pumping and washing every few seconds at various parts of the cycle. But worse, at the end of the cycle it sits there for a good 15 minutes doing nothing. Usually this is just as we are nodding off to sleep. Then, finally, it turns on the pump for 20 seconds and then sounds an extremely loud beeper (I call it the klaxon) for a good 10 seconds. Our bedroom is more than 15 m away from the dishwasher and still it is ear-piercing. What is the purpose of this stupid beeping!?!
As for the oven-- it has an in-built cooling fan that comes on whenever the exterior exceeds a certain temperature -- even when the oven is turned off. So great, you've just finished cooking your meal, you all sit down and have to listen to this bl**dy loud fan whirring away while you eat and try to shout a conversation over the noise.
Are these super-annoying "features" now standard on computer-controlled appliances?
Honestly I would rather go back 5 years to the old school non-computerised appliances. As with cars, engineers seem obsessed with using microprocessors not to improve the user experience, but rather to add an array of extremely annoying new "features".
Edit to add; I emailed Omega about these and there is no way to disable them. Like it or lump it.
