Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Sep 01, 2010 8:33 pm Ok I was over in the US last year and I noticed everybody there has their microwave overhead (usually above the stove, where we would typically have a rangehood) rather than sitting on the counter top like we do here. Also, over there they tend to have the 'grab handle' door rather than the little button you push in, to open the door. Perhaps this photo might help you picture it a little better: http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/4598/uskitchen.jpg Anyway, I want one of these microwaves for an apartment I'm moving into soon. But almost all the microwaves here in Australia seem to the counter top variety. Why is this? The overhead microwaves are NOT simply countertops fitted overhead. They are a completely different design - the main difference is that the air vents are above the oven rather than on the sides. It still sits on something. The overhead ones are mounted from above. You don't need anything underneath them to support them. I also don't like stainless steel microwaves. I like your basic white "GE" style microwave as per the link I posted in my original post. Re: Where do you get US-style overhead microwaves in AUS? 5Sep 01, 2010 8:52 pm Thank you. What about importing one? I'm assuming they are only single voltage (110V) though? I believe this is correct. From the picture you can see the power was put in last so the electrician knew where the water was. Really it's a common sense issue more… 4 5159 Hi, Can anyone give me approx. price for overhead cupboards. TIA 0 16607 Bigger the better for storage for me IMO. But I guess it's harder to tell the cost/benefit in your example - mainly the 'cost'? If you go 700mm, what are you doing extra… 2 1055 |
