Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jul 22, 2010 12:58 am Hi All, We are trying to decide on a new fridge for our kitchen and we have been looking at several, but specifically the Fisher & Paykel Bottom Mount 519 lt or the equivelient in the Electrolux. I have heard some so-so opinions of the F&P and also the Westinghouse. I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who has one of these fridges regarding any disadvantages/problems. Would you purchase another one from this brand? Thanks much KK Re: Fridges - Opinions please. 2Jul 22, 2010 10:21 am Hi, Mum and Dad have a F&P, upside down fridge, they bought it in 1991 and it is still going strong. They redid the seals and replaced one of the plastic shelves (small crack appeared) 18 mths ago. They seem to be built to last. HTH, Michelle Re: Fridges - Opinions please. 3Jul 22, 2010 9:44 pm I don't think they build them to last anymore, i have a F&P fridge well actually my 3rd previous 2 replaced because of faults but i must say there service is good but slow on parts Glad i have extended warranty. Also have a f&p washer which flooded my laundry first go I won;t be buying f&p again Re: Fridges - Opinions please. 4Jul 22, 2010 10:09 pm I've got a Westinghouse and have had one for five years without even a smidgeon of a problem. My parents have had three Westinghouses in my lifetime, and all three are still going strong (they got new ones for upgrade/space reasons - one moved into their garage as a second fridge, and one my sister took when she moved out). Re: Fridges - Opinions please. 5Jul 22, 2010 10:18 pm I have a Samsung side-by-side and it hasn't missed a beat in 6 years. Parents have Westinghouse and it would be... 15+ years old? It's still working well but showing signs of age. Westinghouse we have in our oven/rangehood and it's newish but been flawless so far. I'm happy with them. I have heard F&P appliances have a highish fault rate from some friends and a repair guy who says much of his business is F&P - I wouldn't buy that brand. Status: sold our first house, moved in with parents, bought our second in Pakenham, still planning to build in a few years time. Re: Fridges - Opinions please. 7Jul 23, 2010 7:58 pm I have a 15 year old bottom freezer westinghouse. We've had the seals replaced once and the door washers replaced (because the weight of drinks in doors place pressure on the door hinge) however it is on it's last legs now. The fridge tends to freeze things in summer now. I wish I'd gotten the 510 litre now as I think part of our problem is it's over full. As a single person 15 years ago I didn't really think too far ahead in terms of a family fridge. I have westinghouse on my wish list now for our next 600-700l fridge/freezer. If we don't go with side by side I'm definately going for another bottom mount Re: Fridges - Opinions please. 8Jul 24, 2010 12:39 am Thanks for the feedback everyone. Hubby has his heart set on the F&P fridge (he likes the style) but given the feedback I'm leaning towards the Electrolux. Our previous fridge was a westinghouse but the doors never did seal properly and eventually the door just fell off when the eldest opened it one afternoon so he really is not keen on another westinghouse. However, other than the issue with the door seals, it didn't miss a beat for over 12 years so who knows. Thanks again for providing your experiences, this forum is proving to be a valuable resource.
