Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances Re: Anyone has cooktop and rangehood straight from overseas? 2Jun 16, 2010 9:23 am No haven’t purchased directly from overseas but I would imagine that weight and shipping costs would be an issue. Anything over AUD$1000 can have GST applied to it. Other things to consider, is it natural gas or LPG? And voltage of appliances 110V or 220-240V? What about returns, warranties, spare parts? Exchange rates and bank conversion fees? Of course you may save yourself some money, but just some things to also take into account and if it is all worth the hassle? Re: Anyone has cooktop and rangehood straight from overseas? 3Jun 16, 2010 10:11 am One thing with appliances bought from overseas is they don't have australian approvals. If something happens, let's say the cooktop blows up (very unlikely) and it causes a fire and burns down your whole house, your insurance company may not cover it because the appliance hasn't been approved for use in Australia. Re: Anyone has cooktop and rangehood straight from overseas? 4Jun 16, 2010 10:56 am Hi guys thanks for the reply:) Yes I am very concerned and aware of these problems but when you're looking at exactly same range hood selling for $3300 here where I can get it from $800 overseas.......... I don't see where all these mark-ups coming from. .... everything in Aus is just so overpriced........... I had couple of quotations from pre-covid times, I am quite sure they are more expensive now plus with current USD rate and shipping costs it makes them really unaffordable. 6 24325 Thanks. There are plenty of builders around my suburb. I'll make sure to do some door-to-door knocking, or note their building details on the temp fence. 4 4752 My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven.
