No, it can be installed on a wall. They even included in mine a metal shield to protect from rain if I were to have mounted mine on a side wall. Didn't need it!

For those thinking of getting Schweigen rangehood here is something to ponder!

I put down a deposit for one a few weeks ago and will go to pick it up this week. I range an installer recommended by prestige appliance to get a quote for install (as I did not know anyone good to install it). I was quoted roughly $680.... to install on a new house single story colourbond / tint roof!!!

Can some one tell me if I have been had????? Apparently this guy who will be installing is the #1 Schweigen tech in Aus for rangehood, his install means there will be no issues claiming warranty if there are problem. Supposedly if it's not done correctly (not compulsory to use any particular tech) then very slim chance of claiming warranty.

An electric motor, some lights, some switches. I think they'd be very hard pressed to claim that installation was a problem if any of those stopped working.

As for the line about the number 1 tech in Australia, how many times have you had someone say "We'll recommend the worst tech in Australia" or even "Sorry, only our second best tech is available." Salespeople sometimes use the same approach no matter what the product, and after a while it becomes easy to spot.

Having said that, $680 might not be bad IF he has to cut through the cornice and does a neat job of patching it up afterwards. It cost me almost $100 for the decktite to use where the exhaust went through the roof. You could always install it yourself; I managed to do it! If I can, just about anyone can.

$680 is fine. It needs to be attached to the wall, cut through ceiling, cut through roofline and all made good. Does it need extra ducting? That is expensive also.

Mmm beginning to rethink this as we live in a coastal area. Maybe an electric motor outside may not be a great idea. Thanks for your replies.

I will look into the cost of the others mentioned.

I purchased a Scweigan rangehood a few months ago and it is fantastic I am so happy with the purchase. It is extremely silent which I love because I cook alot also and it looks very modern which a huge plus and it was much easier to install than I thought

Hi rlay, it looks like you have installed 2 rangehoods in the alfresco; are they both running off the single motor, or did you have to put to separate motors?

For those who have installed the motor DIY, what kind of brackets did you use to attach the PVC pipe to roof beams? Are the strap type brackets enough to support the weight of the motor (seems quite heavy)? Do you need to screw into the PVC pipe?

Has anyone installed a back draft damper? is it OK to install one at all? I find hot air rush through the ducting from the ISO Drive in hot summer day and cold draft in winter.
