Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Apr 30, 2010 11:00 pm Has anyone got a Schweigen rangehood? http://www.schweigen.com.au/. We are looking at the isodrive model motor 1600m3 we do a lot of messy cooking. Re: Schweigen rangehood 2May 01, 2010 11:04 am Yes I have purchased one the WM3150 model with the isodrive motor @ 1600m3 (it is still at the warehouse) so I can't yet make any comments based on experience as it awaits the completion of my kitchen reno - now proceeding. I can tell you I had a good look around at the various offerings - for once you decide on the shape the next factor just has to be the amount of noise these things make (given they all suck air ok) and in this model in the ones we heard it was virtually unnoticeable. I am told with this motor the low setting will do almost all one will need so presumably almost silent in action. er, I presume you aren't going to use it to suck up your mess but all the fumes and smoke cheers barkly Re: Schweigen rangehood 3May 03, 2010 9:55 am Yep! I have 2 DS3170 900mm and those babies SUCK! (literally). I have one over a BBQ and no problems. http://rlay1.blogspot.com/2009/06/alfresco-kitchen.html Re: Schweigen rangehood 7May 07, 2010 8:35 am Hi meatpie, I've just taken a closer look at the range and I actually have the Professional 1000 (http://www.schweigen.com.au/professional-1000.html) ~ been a long time since I purchased them. It doesn't have the ISO drive, but it is rated to 2400 m3 of airflow! Re: Schweigen rangehood 8May 07, 2010 8:45 am fruitty, Schweigen used to have RRP on their website but they seen to have taken them off now. You can take a look at (http://www.prestigeappliances.com.au/ra ... ndex.shtml) for some prices. NB: Please note I have no affiliation with Prestige Appliances, just managed to find some Schweigen from them! Re: Schweigen rangehood 9May 15, 2010 1:59 am We installed the ISO drive 1600 ourselves about a month ago. We are very happy with it - it can move a lot of air and it really is significanly quieter than most other models. It was worth paying the extra. Thankfully, they replaced the LED lighting with halogen lighting. Just wondering how hard is it to install yourself (not that I'm gonna do it) but as I'm thinking of changing to Schweigen after the handover cuz my builder can't get it? Is all the ducting different from other rangehood and where does your motor located? I installed it myself with help from my FIL. The most difficult part was deciphering the instructions. Is all the ducting different from other rangehood and where does your motor located? It wasn't particularly difficult. The motor is installed on top of a solid pipe that you put through your roof. The ducting is actually the normal aluminium tubing for this kind of thing that you can find in your local hardware shop. I'm sure it took a lot longer than someone who does this for a living, but we got there. It would be handy if the stainless steel cover for the real ducting was the same size as that would avoid the need to cut the plaster and cornice. Re: Schweigen rangehood 14May 29, 2010 6:05 pm We are getting the schweigen 900mm concealed Isodrive 1600 we paid $1995. Really looking forward to it sucking all the greasy steam out of the room. so our messy fat spitting cooking won't affect the rest of the house Also thought some of you would be interested that the Xpel range is the same motor in a cheaper housing (apparently retails for less and has cheaper filters not stainless steel) available at H.Norman Re: Schweigen rangehood 15May 30, 2010 12:24 am Emohruo Really looking forward to it sucking all the greasy steam out of the room. so our messy fat spitting cooking won't affect the rest of the house I almost miss the aroma when we are cooking with spices... Re: Schweigen rangehood 17May 31, 2010 1:00 am Hyper Emohruo We've also noticed that the Schweigen website seems quite out of date (it turns out that the model we were looking at on the website was discontinued 6 months ago), and inconsistent in places (eg one page says LED lights in one sentence and halogen in another, and we've not been able to fully pin down whether the ISODrive units are 3 speed or 5 speed), so if you are looking at a Schweigen it may pay to ask the retailer about the precise specifications of the model you are thinking of getting. My ISODrive unit is 5 speed. When you turn it on, it starts at speed 2. I understand that Schweigen have moved back from the LED lights to halogen, for which I'm grateful: although I'm a bit of a tech nerd in some ways, I think LED lighting has some downsides. We are very happy with the light provided by two 50 W (I believe) halogen lights. Yes, we found their web site was out-of-date, too. I can't keep my website up-to-date (I probably spend too long on H1!), so I have some sympathy for them. Re: Schweigen rangehood 19Aug 31, 2010 6:32 pm Just thought I'd pop in to say that I rang our Harvey Norman store in Preston (Vic) today for a price on Schweigen rangehood. The woman I spoke with said the computer's price says $1500 for the single motor and $2100 for the twin, but that she's sure that I can talk her down when I visit. I had been thinking I'd pay a lot more for Schweigen, but it appears not. My other option was a Miele, but no dice with deals on that front - they're apparently a set price. I also learned recently about another rangehood with an external motor called Whispair. Seehttp://hausappliances.com.au/. Haven't yet had a chance to price it, but another forum user is very happy with his. I've found this article thought provoking, especially the bit about not wanting to remove all the warm air out of your house via the rangehood. This has influenced me towards the smaller Schweigen, even though I would stir fry a few times a week. http://www.thinkappliances.com/green.aspx e. Re: Schweigen rangehood 20Aug 31, 2010 10:34 pm For those thinking of getting Schweigen rangehood here is something to ponder! I put down a deposit for one a few weeks ago and will go to pick it up this week. I range an installer recommended by prestige appliance to get a quote for install (as I did not know anyone good to install it). I was quoted roughly $680.... to install on a new house single story colourbond / tint roof!!! Can some one tell me if I have been had????? Apparently this guy who will be installing is the #1 Schweigen tech in Aus for rangehood, his install means there will be no issues claiming warranty if there are problem. Supposedly if it's not done correctly (not compulsory to use any particular tech) then very slim chance of claiming warranty. $220 to install the 90cm freestanding cooker (sounds a little more reasonable). What is the going rate for a good plumber / electrician these days? How long would a range hood take to install? Anyone else know someone else I can call for a comparison. |
