$2,000 to spend on a cooktop, what would you get?

Hi

We've got a $2,000 (give or take few hundred dollars) for a cooktop, and are thinking between these four models:

http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/pro ... _17180.htm
http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/pro ... _17181.htm
http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/pro ... _17191.htm
http://www.miele.com.au/au/domestic/pro ... _17190.htm

We're thinking the electric ones would be super easy to clean and keep clean. However, I know that gas is preffered by most people. We don't really cook a lot of asian food (if that makes any difference - I've heard it does ...)

Which one would you recommend and why?
Has anyone got any of these models and if so are you happy with them?
We had our arms twisted by the salesguy at Harvey Norman to go induction. He explained that it was better than gas in terms of control and much easier to clean, safer etc.

Although we were skeptical, his arguments made sense and we went along with his suggestion. Now we have absolutely no regrets and are very grateful to him. Now, we would not consider any other type of cooktop.

So, my recommendation is simple and obvious....have a good, close look at induction cooktops.

Cheers

Oooohhhh I LOVE miele!

Ill come back and have a look tonight and tell you what I think

I dont mind induction, but Ive paid too much damn money on my pots and pans to trade them in for others which are suitable
And Ive only boiled on induction, not cooked so not sure how it compares (clive peeters demo lol)

Ditto!
Induction.
I know not everyone here will agree.

When my girlfriend became my wife, we had and still have two sets of everything. So one set is going to a new home.....somewhere...I don't know where.
Back!

Have you looked at these in person? Ive seen the miele 600mm electric and actually think its a little small to work with, so would go the larger electric.

I quite like both the gas, so would simply chose on what burner layout I thought would be more useable when looking at it

Oh, and Ill move this to kitchen
We got induction top about 12 months back. Best think I had after gas. Needs a new set of kookware, suitable for induction heating.
Save your money up and buy an induction cooktop

These electric ones are not induction stove tops. Think slow instead of fast and inefficient compared to gas and induction.

Why not try another brand that has induction for around $2000, like the TEKA induction stovetop?
If it was just a choice of these 4 I'd go number 2.

But like the others, I'd go induction and I would not waste my money on a Miele cooktop. Not saying they are not good but a cooktop is a cooktop, not much difference in performace so you don't meed to go top of the range as you should with say an oven.

If it were me, I'd be looking at induction units from Siemens, Bosch, Neff....even Blanco. You should be able to get something around the $2500 mark.
My builder thought I was nuts but I have plonked down a deposit for a Highland cooktop which has a combo of induction plus gas. The model is HT3CIN/L 85CM 3 BURNER GAS COOKTOP WITH 2 INDUCTION ZONES. Let's just say that's not a cheap cooktop. I compromised by having a cheap oven.

The reason why I went for induction + gas is because there's too many parts to a gas cooktop. Induction looks like it would be easier to clean as it's just a flat surface.

I agree with the statement above. Just make sure your gas cooktop has flame failure protection.
We also went with Highland.
If you want the look of electric, I would only go induction.
Choice have just done a new review of induction cooktops. I'm not a big fan of the choice reviews but they are worth having a look at.
