Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances Re: Kitchen Appliances - what's a good brand? 21Mar 15, 2010 10:41 pm I reckon certain brands make better types of certain appliances, and then are not necessarily so good at others. Of course a lot of them provide a full range. An example. Bosch make great diswashers, also great washing machines (german made and excellent). But they don't make great fridge/freezers (these are outsourced and made in korea). And then some, like Miele, make most things really well. However, Miele don't make great gas cooktops. Ilve make really good gas cooktops, and quite decent ovens, but I'm not sure about their microwaves and dishwashers. So if you want the best of everything, you may need to mix brands. Some people prefer not to because of the look (everything matches if the same brand). Really personal preference on your priorities. Also your budget. My mum's new kitchen uses an ilve cooktop, bosch dishwasher, and falmec rangehood. These best suited her style of cooking, budget and she wasn't bothered about matching brands. Re: Kitchen Appliances - what's a good brand? 22Mar 17, 2010 11:18 am Hi I spent a lot of time and research on appliances. Have gone with Bosch dishwasher top of the range and everything else the new range Smeg. We considered Miele but cost seemed excessive but felt worth buying the top dishwasher. We currently have Westinghouse in the house we are renting while building - fairly new house. Westinghouse appliances are hopeless In house we sold to build we put in a new kitchen a few years back and had Blanco and all were excellent. Good luck- it will all work out Re: Kitchen Appliances - what's a good brand? 24Mar 17, 2010 12:29 pm Quote: Would love to hear more about this. I don't think that is the case. But I do think an expensive cooktop is a waste of money. Unlike an oven or rangehood or dishwasher, there is not much variance in cooktop performace between the top of the range and the bottom of the range. Re: Kitchen Appliances - what's a good brand? 25Mar 17, 2010 12:38 pm I agree - it really depends on what you want to pay - and whether you cook - I am an avid cook and have gone for Smeg gas cooktop with cast iron trivets, because to me gas is best for cooking especially asian food and no need to pay more. Actually, when we were looking at gas cooktops the salesman told us this also. We were buying Miele ovens etc. and he asked us if we had our minds set on matching all the appliances. When we said no, he told us that the Miele gas cooktops were not made to the same high standard as their other appliances and that we would be better saving money and going to another brand. Not sure about the comment on the "same high standards" but I think the thrust of his message is right. Save money on your cooktop, not on your oven or rangehood. Re: Kitchen Appliances - what's a good brand? 28Mar 24, 2010 4:29 pm Well, we have decided on the Bosch. Couldn't justify spending almost double the price on the Neff. Didn't really like the look of the Meile to be honest. Thanks to everyone who has given their opinions/comments/advice! Re: Kitchen Appliances - what's a good brand? 30Mar 27, 2010 4:44 pm I have a Bosch dishwasher, dryer and front loader and will be updating them. I have had my current Bosch appliances for 10 years. They have be very good. Looking forward to a new Samsung Side by side fridge with the drinks hatch. I have heard some LG models side by side, have been recalled as they give you a electric shock!! Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5712 9 24643 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7254 |
