Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Mar 12, 2010 3:11 pm Hi all, Hoping to get some feedback on a good quality electric oven and cooktop to buy. We need the 600mm size and are looking at a standard electric oven (not pyrolytic) and an induction cooktop. We are looking to spend under or around $3000 for both. So far the brands we've looked at are Smeg, Westinghouse & Blanco. Westinghouse is looking good so far as it comes under our budget plus they have a bonus at the moment where you get a free camera and microwave. Does anyone have any other brands they could recommend? We would like something good quality that will last, just not overly expensive. Thanks! I would recommend Bosch and would buy these appliances again. If budget is a problem, Omega should be around the same price (maybe made in a Smeg factory, but check). The problem with the cheaper inductions (and many not-so cheap ones) is they don't go to a low enough setting for many gentle simmer functions, and the steps between settings are too big. Bosch is one of the best, with 17 heat settings (most brands have 9 or 10). Looking for one that can gently melt chocolate is a test. Bosch and Miele can do that & advertise it as such. In my new house I'm budgeting $2100 for a Bosch induction. I've had Bosch before and I think it runs rings around everything else I've had, including Smeg. Bosch also does very well in consumer reports. Re: Which brand for a good electric/oven & induction cooktop 4Mar 13, 2010 4:18 pm Thanks all for your replies. If we had the budget Bosch would definitely be one of my first choices, but as we are looking to save a bit of money we won't be considering them because of the price tag. I have been told that Westinghouse is made in China, but is an Australian company so is quite reliable. Also Fisher and Paykel seem to be a good quality brand for ovens. Anyone had any experience with Fisher & Paykel? Thanks Ginny Re: Which brand for a good electric/oven & induction cooktop 5Mar 13, 2010 5:08 pm My anecdotal observations: Westinghouse and Fisher and Paykell are medium quality brands - medium price, medium quality. Generally you'll get a good product that lasts the distance but they aren't anything special. Occasionally you'll get a factory dud that has the potential for lots of $$$ to be sunk into it for repairs. Sometimes you'll get a ripper. My parents had a Westinghouse fridge and gas cooktop for 20 years, and had a Fisher Paykell washing machine who had a breakdown once every 2 years or so. We inherited the washing machine and it finally died after 10 years only recently, replaced it with another Fisher Paykell and no problems. Bosch and Mielle are top quality, top dollar. I have never heard anything bad about them, you get what you pay for it seems. I love Product Review (aussie website) to read about what people think of certain brands/models but be aware that it's in the nature of people to post a scathing review rather than a shining review: you don't often feel like praising your washing machine for working, but by golly you'll vent if it dies after 2 years My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven. It's personal preferance 5 10827 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7257 Hi everyone!
