Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Dec 09, 2009 11:29 pm Hi all I've read alot about the different pyro ovens - just wondering if anyones actually used the pyrolytic function yet on their oven? If so what brand do you have? We are building a holiday house and think it would be a worthwhile investment to avoid cleaning others mess! Unsure which brand to go for - looking at possibly Bosch or miele (anyone who has these I'd love to know your likes/dislikes) Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 2Dec 10, 2009 5:18 am Hi Sharon...I have the Bosch pyro oven and love the oven. Only had it a few months so haven't had to use the pyro function yet so sorry, can't help with that side of it. Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 3Dec 11, 2009 6:44 pm We had one in the old house. It had two settings, one for when the oven wasn't very dirty and one for when you know that something had spilled or if the oven hadn't been done in a while I used to put mine on pyro after a cooked meal (for half hour) and that would be it. Because I did that I didn't need to use the longer setting. They usually have a lock on them so that you cannot open the door while the process is going on. When it is finished you are left with a sort of soot residue on the bottom of the oven which you clean with a damp cloth. Excellent bit of kit and I really, really miss mine. Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 5Dec 12, 2009 6:20 am Hi Mango...mine (Bosch) tells me to take all the shelves out..I imagine that would be the case with all of them as the shelves etc aren't designed to stand the high temperatures of the pyro function Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 7Dec 15, 2009 11:51 pm Thanks for your replies guys. I'm looking at the Bosch pyro oven (only because I can't really justify the Miele one for a holiday home). My only concern is the internal size of the oven - its only a 60cm oven. I guess though not many people will cook a full blown roast on holidays! Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 8Dec 16, 2009 3:10 am SharonC Thanks for your replies guys. I guess though not many people will cook a full blown roast on holidays! I'm actually surprised that I haven't found the size a problem at all with my Bosch oven. I have cooked a roast in it, but only a small one. Compared to my old Simpson (bottom element only, no fan forced), this one is a dream And the old Simpson was bigger too. Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 10Dec 18, 2009 4:22 am SharonC Sounds like the bosch ones okay, maybe they'll have some specials after Christmas - one can only hope! Happy Christmas cooking everyone You may be able to negotiate a price for a Bosch, unlike some of the brands. Don't know where you're from but we got ours from Clive Anthony's here on the Gold Coast and they gave us quite a bit off..and it was already reduced to start with. Good luck with it Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 11Dec 31, 2009 8:19 pm Just today we bought a new pyro oven for our yet to be installed kitchen. We got it for $700! Over 50% discount so happy with that.. it is a euromaid psms9, so not sure about the brand, but we use the cooktop way more than the oven so happy to save on the oven to splurge on an induciton cooktop.. which will probably be a miele. I'm really looking forward to a self cleaning oven! Recently moved to a 60's home in need of some improvement! http://s797.photobucket.com/user/leenii ... ch%20House Old house: http://s797.photobucket.com/albums/yy25 ... loo/House/ Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 12Jan 01, 2010 10:36 am As Xmas was cool I gave in to my OH's desire to have a hot Xmas dinner. After cooking pork, lamb and turkey my Miele was looking the worse for wear so we bravely used the pyrolitic cleaning for the first time. It worked fine (we took out the side racks etc) and we were happy with the cleanliness. However, the air being expelled from the front opening in the top of the oven (after supposedly being drawn into the back of the oven and cooled down after the process finished) was quite hot still. Thank goodness it was a cool day as it would have been terrible on a hot day. I will not rush to use this function unless the weather is suitable. I was a little disappointed also by the temperature under the oven but I assume that would be a reflection on our kitchen cabinets. We only used the pyro 1 setting which is the coolest so I don't think I would be brave enough to go any hotter. Back to the oven bags for me. Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 13Jan 05, 2010 3:51 pm Sounds like a poorly designed kitchen neverfinished, or cheap materials used by your kitchen company if you have that problem. You should check with the specifications of the oven to see if it complies with your kitchen design. If it gets that hot it could become a fire hazard. My oven vents the heat outside via a flute Happy 2010 To Everyone !! Still crazy about my new kitchen, link removed by my request The bathroom is next on the list, coming soon !!! Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 14Jan 05, 2010 4:01 pm Field_bob,
Surely you are not so childish as to follow my posts so you can make cheap digs at me. If you want to get into a p*****g war with me I am quite prepared to compare our kitchens. Cheap is not a word I would use to describe mine - nor gaudy. Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 15Jan 05, 2010 4:24 pm Friendly reminder to all to please stay on topic. Feel free to read the forums terms and conditions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Pyrolytic Ovens - anyone used Pyro function yet? 16Jan 16, 2010 1:28 am Well I finally found the oven I wanted, Miele one, and I got it discounted after Christmas as they were dismantling the display. Hopefully it will work out well. Glad that decision and hunting is over! Next to find a rangehood!!
