Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Oct 05, 2009 3:49 pm Hi, I was just wondering how practical it was to have the microwave or steam oven under the island. Do you find it too low and difficult to get things out? Or does it work fine. Have seen this setup in quite a few of the display homes. Thanks in advance. Re: Microwaves or Steam ovens under island 2Oct 05, 2009 7:51 pm My mum has the microwave under the island. When we stay I don't find it a pain to bend down, well maybe a little warm up my daughters milk if I have to carry her in my arms, lol. It's also annoying because she can play with the settings when in use, she can change the wattage. I also don't like it being low as she would like to stand in front of it while in use. As much as I hate it being in that situation, in our new kitchen it will be there only cause I don't want to look at a microwave when I walk into the kitchen, I want the back bench to be stream lined. Re: Microwaves or Steam ovens under island 3Oct 05, 2009 8:47 pm We are getting a steam oven in our new kitchen, and I know when we were speaking with the consultant at the showroom, they talked about some steam emission when you open the door, so it wouldn't be ideal being under the island in this instance I wouldn't think, esp with little ones around. If you had to have one over the other under the island I would definitely opt for the microwave.
