Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Jun 12, 2007 10:26 pm Hi there
Can anyone recommend a great dishwasher? We currently have a Fisher & Paykel double drawer dishwasher thingy (like my technical language!!) but I'm not that keen on it so want to get something better for the new place which is currently under construction. I have heard that Miele & Asko are good brands? Would appreciate any feedback!! I'm happy to spend more money if it means getting a better product! Thanks Nat Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 4Jun 13, 2007 8:34 am We love our AEG Favorit - was recommended by Choice mag.
Their most recent recommendations (may 07) are: MIELE G1220SC $1649 BOSCH Logixx AquaVario SGV67T13AU $2449 LG LD-1204W $999 AEG F86080UM $1599 AEG 40760 $1099 ELECTROLUX DISHLEX DX302 $949 These may perform the best at cleaning, drying etc - but are rated as 1.5 or 2 star for WELS (water efficiency) - this is really only 2-3L difference. I've looked at the 3-4 star WEL dishwashers - and none seem to rate too highly on cleaning efficiency! Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 5Jun 13, 2007 9:08 am How about in the 2 drawer range? Seems like there is plenty of choice in the single drawer range but anything really good in the 2 drawers?
We currently have a ultra cheap dishwasher in our rental and the thing does a really poor job of cleaning. Sometimes we just have to rewash everything by hand so I am keen to get one that actually does the job. I am not too worried about efficiency water of power wise as I will save on these in other areas of the house. 3xb Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 7Jun 13, 2007 9:19 am We currently have a Miele slimline dishwasher (9-setting, fits into one cupboard space). We love it and are putting a fullsize Miele G2220SCI (14-setting, semi integrated) into our new house. We love the cutlery drawer - means you have more space in the bottom shelf. Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 8Jun 13, 2007 12:31 pm I'm looking at Miele or Smeg. The thing I don't like about the Kleenmaid stuff is that they don't actually make anything at all - they just buy and re-badge. My mate fitted out his kitchen in Kleenmaid and has appliances made in four different countries by different manufacturers Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 9Jun 13, 2007 12:34 pm It may be stating the obvious here, but Simpson are total rubbish. We had several bad experiences. Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 11Jun 13, 2007 1:20 pm Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 12Jun 13, 2007 1:38 pm The water efficiency rating for any produccts can be found here:
http://search.waterrating.com.au/dwashe ... &B1=SEARCH And 2 star energy rating (www.energyrating.gov.au) Couldn't find anything on performance on the Choice website Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 13Jun 13, 2007 2:51 pm Dukekamaya I'm looking at Miele or Smeg. The thing I don't like about the Kleenmaid stuff is that they don't actually make anything at all - they just buy and re-badge. My mate fitted out his kitchen in Kleenmaid and has appliances made in four different countries by different manufacturers You're entitled to your opinion, Dukekamaya. The dishwasher we have is made by Brandt, I think in Italy. We also have a Kleenmaid washer and clothes conditioner (big capacity drier). We bought these all about 11 years ago. The washer & drier are made by Speed Queen in the USA. Speed Queen are commercial quality units and are one of the biggest manufacturers of commercial units in laundromats etc. We have NEVER regretted our choices. These units have worked extremely hard in their service life. Our 12 year old son has autism and it took him about 7-8 years to be toilet trained. So the washer has done on average 10 loads per week for our family. We have only had one minor problem with it that was easily fixed. Rebadging is common practice with all sorts of products. What I LIKE about Kleenmaid is they really do source some of the finest products in the world, and bring them to us, with excellent warranties that exceed most of their competitors. You mentioned Smeg. We have two Smeg wall ovens and a 5 burner gas cooktop (about the same age as the Kleenmaid stuff). We also bought a Smeg microwave oven a few years ago. We are not as impressed with Smeg gear as I think we could be. We have a problem with the digital clock/timer in one oven. I recently inquired about replacing it. It was going to cost $700 for the timer unit + labour to replace it. I was appalled at that and said 'stick it'! Then with the microwave, I spent an hour a few weks ago pulling the door apart to fix it because the inner door panel kept coming out. That was after enquiring about repairing it and being quoted absurd prices too. In my mind the problem there was poor design and build quality. So Smeg may (or may not) build all there own stuff, but I can't say I'm excited about their quality! BTW, I went looking on Ebay for Smeg parts at one stage recently, and found a few dishwashers there that were reasonably new but had problems so the owners were disposing of them quite cheaply. May have been coincidental. I dunno! Ash. Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 14Jun 13, 2007 4:22 pm Thanks for the replies guys & gals
So many choices!!! 3xb- I'd also be interested to know whether their is anything else out there in the 2 door range...I have only seen the Fisher & Paykel which we have now! I really like the concept of the double drawer as we seldom have enough dishes to fill an entire dishwasher...one the drawers in perfect size for our daily dishes. But we have had F & P out three times to fix the computer system thingy on ours (although parts are covered by warranty they charge a $100 call out fee each time)....ours keeps stuffing up when we use the child lock feature and they have to keep fixing the computer system in it! Although it washes great I have been put off by this as for us the child lock is an important feature! Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 15Jun 13, 2007 4:32 pm Perthgirl,
Not wanting to sound damning of the F&P brand necessarily, but I avoid the modern digital circuitry of many modern appliances. They usually have everything operating off one circuit board that is a throwaway item. Anything at all goes wrong and you're over a barrel for them to replace it at the asking price. I happily do without these bells & whistles and touch-pad electronics. Give me an old-fashioned on-off switch anyday! Ash. Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 16Jun 13, 2007 4:55 pm It's getting pretty hard to avoid all the electronics. You get it whether you like it or not.
Look at mobile phones. "They" decided we should have colour screens that you can't see in the daylight. I want a plain LCD screen but you can't get them anymore. We have a Robinhood rangehood which used to blow up the circuit board once a year and cost $100 for the new part. After 3 years of blow ups, we now just turn it on/off at the power point. Imagine the disaster when your internet fridge fails and forgets to order a new bottle of milk! Nnnnoooooooo.......... Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 17Jun 14, 2007 7:59 pm Ash, don't get me wrong the Kleenmaid stuff is top quality. However I don't see the point in paying $3500 for a 'Kleenmaid' oven when you can get the unbadged version for about $2500.
My mate bought all his stuff just so everything said Kleenmaid!! Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 18Jun 14, 2007 8:07 pm Yeah we've got to keep a bit of sanity in our buying decisions, do our homework and do our best to get good value-for-money.
There are folk who cough up blindly for what seems like the 'best' when all they are paying for is a badge. At least forums like this help to cut thru the cr@p! Ash. Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 19Jun 14, 2007 8:29 pm I have a dishlex dishwasher and not too happy with it. My parents have had them and they've been okay which is why I got one but we had to have the heating element replaced under warranty and we've had to replace the door seal ourselves. It disintegrated. I suspect we have a dud one that is overheating as there is no way you can touch the things in it when you first open it. Re: Dishwasher Recommendations? 20Jun 15, 2007 7:56 pm When I did the reno on my kitchen, I did a lot of research on dishwashers, including finding out what the big commercial kitchens and caterers use. I ended up buying the smallest Asko commercial dishwasher I could get. Yes, it was very expensive, but it's very low water usage and doesn't work hard with my measly loads. I had to buy extra crockery etc too because it only gets used twice per week. It hasn't had a problem since I put it in, does an incredibly good job and costs less to operate than a normal household dishwasher, mainly because I use it less. If all you can see are obstacles, you have lost sight of the goals I am installing a new Bosch SMU4HTS01A built under dushwasher. I have 2 questions. What is the function of the metal strip about 500mm long x 60mm wide the tell you to… 0 2700 Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms? Study books - does anyone really use them these days? Large storage closet would be more functional. 2 6884 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45547 |
