Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Aug 04, 2009 9:51 pm We were advised by our builder today that our Baumatic upright cooker has been discontinued. They do have a new model so I am going to find out if this one is available but our builder now wants us to choose between Delonghi and Technika. I had never heard of Baumatic until I started building but now I don't know which brand to get. They also recommended we change the brand of dishwasher to the same as the oven. I have confirmed the cooker is discontinued but they have made a new model with the same functions but it looks better. So I need to ask the builder why the change of brands all together. Does anyone have any recommendations on these 3 brands? Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 2Aug 05, 2009 4:14 pm Hi there I'm no expert on cookers thats for sure and I'm looking at ovens etc myself right now. Out of all the research I have done, I would say do NOT got with technika!! Every sales person I have talk to and people on here have said that Technika is cheap for a damn good reason - its crap. So if they are your only choices, I would go with the Delonghi. Or you can do what I am doing. Ask your builder for a credit for the cost of oven, dishwasher, rangehood etc and go out and buy your own. I went to Clive Peters to have a look at the brands and he said stay away from Baumatic and it was a good thing my cooker was discontinued. Out of the Technika and Delonghi he said DeLonghi is the better one by far. I was surprised in the price difference between the 2 brands. Lorree, did you find it cheaper to do get the credit and buy your own because that's what the salesman at Clive Peters said to do but I thought at the end of the day he is a salesman. I will be having handover in a couple of weeks so I need to make a decision soon. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 4Aug 05, 2009 4:41 pm Well.... I guess it all depends what brand you go with as to whether its cheaper or not lol My builder only had a technika cooker and I didn't want it, but the credit I got was only $1200!! But the cooker I"m looking at is almost $3000, then that brings its price down to $1800 and I'd be more than happy with that price. Keep an eye out on sales, auctions etc... Graysonline have some great auctions for ovens etc.... I"m still a long way off fitting out (my build hasn't started yet) so I'm not ready to buy yet. Let me know how you go and what you end up getting I'd be very interested Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 5Aug 05, 2009 6:43 pm Well they emailed me back saying that they would give me $2650 for the dishwasher, upright cooker and range hood. I would also have to organize installation myself as they said they don't install other peoples appliances. So I have decided to go with the DeLonghi one through the builder as I don't think it's worth the hassle. I priced the oven through Clive Peters and it was $2600 so I can't see how they would only give me $2650. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 6Aug 05, 2009 6:56 pm Hi guys, I feel your frustration. Was the baumatic oven specified as part of your original contract with the builders? If so they should keep up their end of the deal and if not, refund you the whole price they were charging you for those products (and instalation) to begin with as fair compensation for you to purchase another brand. You should not have the terms changed half way through and then told you have to accept their brands and they wont even install something else you may choose. I know i would not be happy with that response. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 7Aug 05, 2009 7:27 pm The Baumatic was in my original contract but this model has now been discontinued with the new one not expected for a couple of months so they can't install Baumatic hence why we have to go for another brand. We weren't being charged any money as such because the oven, rangehood and dishwasher was included in the house (I guess we were paying in the purchase price) but there was not a dollar figure on the appliances. That's why the $2650 came as a surprise to me as I thought it would be more. I would only get refunded what the builder would pay for these appliances I would assume. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 8Aug 05, 2009 7:32 pm Hi, I had delonghi appliances in my last house and in the 7 years we were there never had a problem with any of it. We didn't have one of their dishwashers so cannot comment on what they are like but my oven, cooktop and rangehood were great. I would definately go delonghi over Technika. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 9Aug 05, 2009 8:30 pm I know nothing about Delonghi, but I agree about not buying Technika. I had a Technika gas cooktop in my last house. We paid extra and bought the heavy cast iron trivets to go on top because they looked better and we thought they would last longer - within a few weeks, just with normal usage, two out of the three had cracked right through . I agree that they are cheap - I would never have any of their products again, certainly not in the kitchen reno I am currently doing in our new house. Live and learn. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 10Aug 06, 2009 8:23 pm I have used a delonghi dishwasher and it does a good job I would def go with delonghi, there customer service is pretty good too. We all need a good looking italian in the kitchen lol:) Kitchens are like finger prints, no two are ever the same!! We are getting a technika microwave, dishwasher and upright cooker. It comes standard with Plantation Homes Essence range. I'm sure it will all work fine and any problems in the first year should at least still be covered. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 14Aug 13, 2009 8:49 pm I have been using the technika upright cooker, dishwasher, and rangehood since i moved into the house (nearly 3 months), and have no issue at all, everything work perfectly.. I never have any expectation on them because a lot of people said that they are crap, but it is a free upgrade from builder so why not just take it... and it turn out quite well Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 15Aug 13, 2009 9:10 pm Well.... I've been trying to avoid and I swore black and blue that I wasn't going to go with the standard technika...I've just emailed my builder to say put it back in!!! There have been some late add in's to my quote (stuff I had asked for months ago..and didn't spot that even though they were on the plans, they weren't in the quote) Didn't realise this until I got a ph. call from builder yesterday to let me know. So there goes any ideas of getting some upgrades Not happy jan!!! I'm sure it will all work fine and any problems in the first year should at least still be covered. If it's of any help I had a Technika gas cooktop, electric oven and rangehood in my last house. I actually chose them on recommendation from a girlfriend who also had them and never had a problem. I loved the oven and would have been happy to have the same in our new house (but builder supplied different brand), never had a problem with it in over 5 years. Re: Technika or Delonghi What would you choose? 17Aug 27, 2009 10:08 pm I must agree as well about Technica........they were an upgrade on our house and after 6 years, no problems at all on dishwasher, over, gas top and rangehood............now building again and the upgrade with Carlisle is Technica Belisoma range and read good things about them....... I think they are designed in Netherlands but build in Italy......... So, overall, in 6 years, never had a problem with them.......
