Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 3Jul 29, 2009 2:05 pm Ive got a dishlex at the moment that is terrible, noisy and not always very clean unless i do a super wah for every load. I'm soon to renovate my kitchen and have seen an Asko stainless steel model that i really liked the look of. It looked sturdy, had nice close wire basket things inside so stuff doesnt fall through and was supposed to be quiet. It was about $1600 cash but i'm still looking around for one that might be on special. The salesman did tell me that Asko was a reliable brand but i guess the best reviews are by people who actually have one. Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 7Jul 30, 2009 7:09 am I've been using a Bosch one for a douple of years now, and plan on putting Bosch in the new house. I have been really happy with it. Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 8Aug 02, 2009 12:25 am I looked at Bosch and Miele when I purchased my Asko 7 years ago. What I liked about the model that I bought was the way the top and bottom arms were plumbed. At the time all other brands had some arrangement where the top arm moved out when you pulled the top shelf out. That meant the water supply required a detachable connection. The Asko system had a continuous pipe that meant there was no de-pressurisation via a potential leak. It seemed like a more sensible engineering solution to provide maximum water flow to both arms. All of the Asko components were stainless steel and the drawers were deep and sturdy. It is possible to fit fairly large items even on the top drawer e.g. small saucepans. The door was self balancing so that it could be left in a mid open position. It is also pretty quiet. The water consumption was between 13-21 L/wash which rates well. The filter is easy to clean. We did run into problems earlier this year with poor cleaning performance and the automatic dispenser not opening properly. I ran the Finish cleaning solution (which has the same evil smelt as CLR - sulfamic acid - a highly potent acid) for the first time we owned the machine and we have not problems since. Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 9Aug 02, 2009 8:54 am Hi I've had 2 Askos - the first lasted about 14 years. I've just bought the Asko 3132 when the first went to heaven. Both of them cleaned really well and the new model is soooo quiet. I agree with everything Dymonite said, it is the only dishwasher that seems to have the top spray arm permanently conected and the spray arms are stainless steel, unlike the plastic that everyone else seems to have (well at least all the models I saw). To me that is less to go wrong and stronger. The wire baskets are also a smaller grid than most (I saw a few that were similar) which means you can put smaller items like glasses on the bottom if needed and they won't fall through. I'd go Asko again for sure. Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 10Aug 02, 2009 11:12 am I have a Miele at the moment and am very happy with it. I love the cutlery tray at the top which gives so much more room on the bottom drawer for pots and stuff (where the basket would normally go). It cleans beautifully and quietly. My only whinge is that there is no logical place for long-stemmed wine glasses to go ... still trying to work that one out maybe in Germany they all use those short-stemmed glasses so they don't need room for the log stems?? However I lived at my mum's place last year with an Asko and I loved it too! If I hadn't already bought the Miele ready to go I would have gone for the Asko after living with it. Great clean, quiet too, easy to pack and fit a lot of stuff. They both have pros and cons, but if I was to do it again, I think the Asko might be probably a bit cheaper than Miele, so I would choose Asko by a nose! Sorry Miele fans! Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 13Aug 08, 2009 11:56 am I have an Electrolux Dishlex DX302 and I can't praise it enough. So long as I stack it right, everything comes out clean, even baked on stuff from the slow cooker. Scrambled egg remnants can be a little problematic, but I can live with washing one frying pan every now and then. I hated doing the dishes, felt bad that the missus was doing them so I bought my best friend! If it could iron...... Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 14Aug 08, 2009 12:13 pm The house we are renting has a Dishlex DX103SK and I hate it. It is very noisy and doesnt seem to clean very well. I know have found to get things extremely clean to first use the rinse and hold function prior to using the heavy wash cycle. Even things like glasses with orange juice remnants would not clean properly. In our last house we had a cheapy dishwasher that even worked better then this Dishlex one. We only use Finish tablets which is what the manufacturer recommends. Our last home we built we had an Asko and it was really good. This new home we are installing a Bosch - has all the great functions of the Miele but a lot cheaper. Was going to have two F&P dishdrawers side by side - my MIL has them and love love loves them - but am worried about the size of the load. We already run the Dishlex at least once a day so would hate to think how often we would need to run the D/Ds. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 15Aug 15, 2009 12:49 pm Donuts, Do you use the reactivation salt in your Miele? I'm looking at the Asko and the Miele at present, and with a $200 discount on the Miele and it's salt feature for Adelaides hard water - it's level pegging at present. You still think the Asko is a better unit? Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 16Aug 15, 2009 1:54 pm No we don't do the salt, on advice from Miele themselves! The person I spoke to said Melbourne's water was not hard enough to warrant it. Even though the instruction manual says 'must must must' all over it! Yeah I would probably still choose the Asko next time, because it cleaned just as well and quietly, had a suitable place for my long stemmed glasses and seemed to fit just as much as the Miele despite having a cutlery basket as opposed to tray. Oh and we still haven't worked out how to put the kickboard on If Adelaide has hard water though then maybe I'd be looking more at the Miele, though I don't know from personal experience (or otherwise actually) how hard water impacts on washing dishes. Does the Asko you're looking at have a cutlery basket or tray, not sure what the new models are doing? I reckon if they had a tray you could fit HEAPS into the bottom drawer, and that would definitely push me back over to Asko! Sorry, probably not much help! Maybe some more Miele lovers need to come on and give you their reviews for balance... Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 17Aug 15, 2009 2:54 pm I just bought the Asko d3122 $1350 in stainless steel built in model. This one is probably the base model asko as it didnt have as many functions and extras that the top of the line asko had but for the price, i can live without 10 wash cycles and cope with 4. the drawers dont adjust in mine either but its been reviewed to be a top performing dishwasher and my budget has been stretched now that i want granite tops. BTW a friend of mine bought the miele with the adjustable drawers and she thinks it was worth every penny, very quiet and very good at cleaning. I guess with good brands you really cant go wrong Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 18Aug 16, 2009 12:08 pm We bought an Asko and it is fantastic - dishes come out sparkling clean. We had a Westinghouse in our old house and it was useless and therefore never bothered to use it. braveheart Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 19Aug 17, 2009 7:30 am Hi...I'm going to throw a little spanner in the works...we have a Westinghouse SB915 Touchdry, which we've had for probably a couple of years at a guess, maybe a little less. It replaced an old second hand Dishlex that was given to us a couple of years before that. The dishlex was noisy and not all that good, but the Westinghouse is heaps better. Is it super, super quiet?...no. Is it annoyingly noisy?...no...it just swishes away very quietly in the background. Does it clean the dishes?...yes...even baked on stuff, and the very, very odd occasion that it's left a spot, it doesn't take much to remove by hand. And since switching from tablets to powder and rinse aid, it also dries them beautifully (I'm now using Aldi powder and rinse aid) Ok, I loved the ones with the cutlery trays and maybe the quality is better but they were way out of our budget at the time. And this one does what it's supposed to...washes dishes and does it well without any complaints from me, and saves me from having to wash them by hand Re: Dishwasher review - Pros & Cons ?? 20Aug 17, 2009 1:26 pm Actually CHOICE have done an updated survey in April 2009. Here are the recommended ones in their order with RRP. We have just ordered the Bosch from Rick Hart and got it for around $1250. A feature of the Bosch I liked is the sliding cutlery holder.
