Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 5Apr 16, 2009 10:13 pm I was wondering this too, as at work we use a ss cleaner but it is really greasy so I dont want to use that at home. Also on some of the ss appliances it says not to use ss cleaner My friend wipes hers with a damp cloth with normal dishwashing liquid, then before it has a chance to dry she buffs it up with a clean teatowel I have tried that on my ss kettle and it comes up lovely. You have to buff it before the smear marks dry on it though, but you can do a section at a time. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 7Apr 23, 2009 8:08 pm My stainless steel appliances are 10 years old and still look great. I never use cleaning products.. as mentioned by someone else I wipe them with a damp microfibre cloth and then buff dry with a dry microfibre cloth. Fingermarks are never a problem. I found stainless steel cleaners caused too many smears! Remember to clean micrifibre cloths in washing machine without fabric softener to keep them working well!!
Hope this helps! Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 8Apr 23, 2009 10:35 pm The smears will have been caused by the applying process. Great for getting off the subborn marks Step 2 - Rinse off the Jif Step 3 - Polish with microfibre cloth I've used those SS cleaning sprays before but I don't think anything beats Jif. And I'm a terribly messy cook too Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 11Apr 25, 2009 8:29 pm I have stainless steel appliances and use a product called "Stainless Steel Magic" by Rubbedin. I got it from Safeway/Woolworths so it is easily available. You just need to spray some onto paper towel and wipe over. It only goes streaky if you use too much, so that is an easy fix... just use a little bit!! It takes away any finger prints or blemishes your stainless steel appliances may have (like water marks on dishwashers) and makes it nice and shiny. And, most of all, it is very easy to use. I used another brand before this one but I couldnt find it in the supermarket... but im am sure all these products are generally the same so any brand will probably do the same job. April 2010 Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 12Apr 26, 2009 10:12 am The wipes are good, but too expensive - the same product comes in a spray bottle. The trick is to only use a little on a paper towel. Used once a week or so, it actually repels fingerprints; the rest of the time, hot soapy water is fine - drying it off is the secret to no streaks. We've had stainless appliances for years now, and I have no problem keeping them looking nice. I wouldn't oil the sink....some abrasive stainless steel cleaner (or Jif) now and then takes out any surface sratches or stains. Then if you're fanatical about a shiny sink, dry it off and give it a polish with Windex. Windex works a treat on white fridges too.... Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 13Apr 26, 2009 10:47 am I clean my SS cooktop with a 1 in 5 solution of cloudy ammonia on a sponge, then wipe with a soft rag. Ammonia pongs a little, but cuts grease, fingermarks, ets like a dream. They recommended warm soapy water (dishwashing detergent) and drying off with a soft cloth/tea towel - same as what Taffy's friend does. This is all I do now and my oven, microwave and rangehood are spotless. Happy at Home Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 15May 04, 2009 10:28 pm I've worked for a few electrical retailers. Alot of them use WD40 and a cloth to wipe dry . It works wonders for me at home. I asked at Harvey Norman the other day about this; as I seem to have been given a fingerprint free oven but the rangehood and stove are not; when I asked the sales guy about this he said it's because the fingerprint free stuff wouldn't stand the heat of the cooktop... don't know how true this is? Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 17May 05, 2009 6:55 pm For work I clean a couple of houses which like to use the Enjo products, those microfibre cloths seem to be great for wiping the SS and not leaving smears (same for window cleaning). Another lady has SS spray of some sort in the cupboard which also does seem to work well. And finally I think the soapy water and then drying / buffing it off would probably work just as well too. I guess you have the ideas to try out now and find whichever suits you best. I tried the oil thing on my bin and also SS fans we had in another place, I didn't really like the result that much. Think I tried CRC silicone spray too - lol just keep it away from the lino unless you want an ice skating rink in the kithcen!! Hmmm now I feel like cleaning my stove with WD40!! Oh yeah, for my own I usually give it a scrub with the soapy dish water (it's only a camping stove) and occasionally a scrub with stainless steel cleaning paste (when the pots overflow ) which I brought for my scanpan pots and pans. Re: Cleaning your stainless steel appliances-what do u use?? 18May 05, 2009 7:00 pm I (if need be) spray with my own kitchen spray I make with water, half a dozen drops of eucalyptus and lavender oil, two or three drops of bleach and half a teaspoon of dishwash liqiud. This softens any crusty bits, then I wipe over with a wet microfibre cloth, then when clean i buff with a dry microfibre cloth. I have heard the bit of baby oil works well too, to keep in good nick. The oven door usually just has finger prints on so just a wet microfibre cloth, then polish with the dry. do the same with the microwave and inside the oven. These things are always so much easier to do if you do it often......
