Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Sep 02, 2012 9:01 pm Hi all, We are renovating our kitchen and have started researching appliances. We went to Harvey Norman today to have a look and we liked the look of the Fisher and Paykel Ovens, but we are unsure of the quality of the ovens. I've had bad experiences in the past with ovens buring whatever is on the bottom rack, regardless of the settting, so I am trying to avoid this. If you don't have any experience with Fisher and Paykel ovens, what oven do you have and what do you love/hate about it? Thanks everyone Re: Oven recommendations for a novice please 2Sep 02, 2012 10:10 pm Hi pankake, I am not the best person to offer advise on this as all the ovens I have ever had have been old and/ or cheap. We are renovating our kitchen, and I have put a lot of research into ovens and cooktops, as well as free standing cookers, though we are not going that way. From my research Bosch consistently comes up trumps, there are nearly no negative reviews to be found, and those who have a negative comment are usually relatively small issues or from people who don't know how to use a modern oven (and haven't taken the time to read the manual). Bosch is probably a bit more expensive then F&P, but appears as though it is worth it. We compared other brands in stores, but stuck to the upper end of what stores like Good Guys or HN stock, but this is not the higher end - there are much more expensive ovens and cooktops out there, but I assume you are not looking at spending $5000 or more on the oven, and then a cooktop as well (if you are then good for you, but let the readers know). We looked at Bosch, Smeg, Electrolux, AEG, and then the less expensive options such as Westinghouse. We were after pyrolytic oven and gas cooktop. At the price point Bosch came out on top - the others were more expensive, but we were offered a great deal on Smeg, but online reviews are very hit and miss. In the end we went with Siemens - yes, generally expensive, but were offered a great deal at comparable price point to Bosch (and built by the same company), so went with that. F&P can make some good appliances, I have friends with fridges or washing machines who are happy with them, but the online reviews are not too encouraging. Once again some people like them and others don't. I suggest looking for reviews online of what you are looking for. If you want to go up a bit on price, look around, go to different stores, see what prices you can get on Bosch. From my experience, stores are keen to get your money at the moment and will bargain. Ring around, many stores you go to will match online prices or go better, also if you are buying sinks or rangehoods, tell them that, sometimes they can give a better price on one of these to get your business. Be prepared to go back to a store who has already given you their "lowest" price and tell them you have beaten it, and see if they are prepared to match the new price. Go to 2nds stores (ie scratch and dent) - these appliances have good prices, but the scratches are usually on the back or sides, or have been showroom items before and a new model has been sent out. You can use this price with a brand new appliance, just say "I don't care it has been re-boxed, it still comes with original warranty, and these are the things that concern me. Are you able to help me or should I just go back the them?" Good luck. Hi Chippy, no there isn't, gave it a really good look through and literally opened everything and checked all edges as well. Hence the question, just hoping someone would… 2 2521 My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven.
