Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Feb 08, 2011 3:57 pm Hi I live in Gordonvale and we are thinking of changing our electric stove to gas. can anyone give me an idea for what is involved in doing it and the costs? We loose our power when we get cyclones through and tired of getting all our keeping gear it happens. Thanks Tracy Re: Change Elect stove to gas 2Feb 08, 2011 5:59 pm Removal of electric stove: Get the electrician to do the following: -Disconnect the wiring from the switchboard to the stove and ensure it gets marked as STOVE on the cable. -Disconnect the oven from the house wiring, ensure the cable is terminated and marked as STOVE. Have the cable pushed into the wall. If there is an isolating switch near the oven for the stove, have this removed and the cables marked. The reason I have mentioned the cable marking is if you ever need to split the power circuits in your kitchen, there is a cable there to use. -Remove the old oven and dispose of. Installation of gas oven The plumber will have to find the gas feed from wherever it is on the house if there is one and extend it to the kitchen. Are you on town gas or will you have to hire a gas bottle? Allow for the rent and refilling of the bottle, also work out how you are going to secure the bottle to the building (chain or tie-downs) Costing: Allow an hour for the electrician, the disposal of the old oven, the purchase of the new oven and the gasfitters parts and labour. Final note: Ensure the oven can be used with no power, most ovens use a 230 volt supply for the igniters. Ensure the oven you buy can be lit with matches and will run with no power. I have a gas cooktop and gas BBQ for cyclones, its a good move when you have no or limited power. Hope this helps. Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 36599 5 11162 2 3120 |
